Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Good Wednesday everyone and thanks so much for dropping by the blog. In what has become tradition here on the blog... the day before Thanksgiving post is dedicated to the best Thanksgiving Movie ever... Planes, Trains and Automobiles! It also happens to be one of my all time favorite movies, so that should tell you a little bit about your friendly weather dude!
Today is a busy travel day... the busiest of the year. The weather doesn't look half bad out there today as we will only have a few light showers as a cold front crosses the region. Here is a radar for your traveling needs...

Temps today will be topping out in the 50-55 degree range with a mix of sun and clouds outside of the few showers. The colder air waits to come in during the day Thursday. Highs for Thanksgiving day will run in the low and mid 40s before falling into the 30s from west to east by later in the day. Rain showers will increase quickly during the afternoon as a system dives through from the northwest. As temps drop... the rain will change to snow showers for Thursday night into early Friday.
Thanksgiving Evening

It is possible that a coating of snow may occur in a few spots... especially in the higher elevations and on elevated surfaces.Daytime highs for Friday will struggle to get out of the 30s. This should make for great Christmas shopping for all you bargain hunters!
The snow showers will move away leaving us with a decent weekend. Temps will be warming back into the low 50s by Sunday. That brings us into next week and what should be an active week as our step down to winter really kicks in. There is likely to be a storm during the first half of the week and this can deliver us some wintry weather. The timing and evolution of this storm still have to be worked out.
The Canadian Model is taking a track that would bring winter to us...

This will make for some fun tracking through the long Holiday weekend. Check back for updates and safe travels. Take care.

I wish Chris, his family, and all the bloggers.. a very safe, fun, peaceful, and loving THANKSGIVING! May God bless you during this holiday season!
Thanks Chris for the awesome blog & website you done a GREAT job on it!
Looking forward to a surprise storm '93

GFS showing signs that the storm for Dec 1st is trying to pull in much colder air even as it envades Kentucky. A classic setup for a RAIN to SNOW.. very interesting to see how this one plays out, its not a typical WARM low from the gulf?? I may have it wrong, but might be an open low, not like a closed low with all the warm air to bring with it? I've never seen this kind of setup for a storm in Ky in the last 4 years that I've watched the GFS, they all have been way too warm as they move to the north to the northeast? It might be only eye candy at the moment, but its sure got to be an eye catcher to Chris! lol
Somebody else put their input on it?

I had a post, it must went into cyberspace! lol
Let's try it again.. The Dec 1st storm is looking really interesting at this point, it pulls in all the COLD air and gets cut off and invades KY, its not looking like a typical warm closed low from the gulf, I'm sure its eye candy at the moment, but its going to be really interesting how this sets up, looking like a classical RAIN to SNOW storm.. just how much moisture it can pull from the east coast as it digs in over Ky!

Our prayers go out to this childs' family. A friend of mine is also going thru a hard time. She lost her dad 2 months ago this past Sunday to a massive heart attack, and Mon. morning, her Mom passed away(cause unknown as of yet). I used to work w/ Wanda and some of Nikki's in-laws.Such nice family and it's going to be a rough one for them as well. Really makes one stop & give Thanks for all they have this season.

the 540 line doesn't move through on the Canadian for a while, that would still be a mainly to rain to light snow outcome.

I agree. I think we are very much on the fence here. Mostly rain.

tx guys, keep a grinding and letting us know what u see on latest model runs and such. first of week storm looks to move FAST once it starts to move too.

HOLD THE PHONE. Now the new GFS run is coming in with a much different solution and doesn't take the low through KY at all. Geez... here go the fun and games.

Actually I would throw it out. I can't make any sense at all of that run. Never seen a low do a zig-zag from the FL panhandle to MI before...

I agree that 12z was a dang odd. I for one will be waiting for the 12z Euro to start putting a forecast for the beginning of next week together.

the FATHER should be CHARGED!!! in ther KNOX COUNTY SHOOTING.
said the 12 year old boy had broke in the gun cabinet before and still he leaves them alone.
nope IM TIRED OF LAZY,SORRY PARENTS getting of the hook in these cases. a beautful little girl is dead because of her FATHERS lack of protection.
as far as first of week snow goes, eastern and SE should see some snow on wrap around.

How about letting the authorities handle the situation instead of some guy who thinks he knows it all and has NO CLUE about the entire situation.
Your act is getting old Rolo.

I'm with Rolo on this one.

I think that Billy The Goat needs to scamper on down the "banned" road and out of this blog. He seems to be a source of contention and have a target on Rolo and Marsha. I don't like that, anybody with me?
Reply to this
I'm with ya' on that, Susan. I don't post here much, except in the Winter, but I look forward to reading Rolo's posts and Marsha's, too. Not fair of someone to be so cruel to them. They're good people.
Reply to this
I'm with you both on this one. There is another on here, too, who seems to take joy in making Marsha take the brunt of his attacks.
NO ONE has the right to treat people this way. I'm surprised that Chris hasn't banned them before now.

CB watch the movie last nite, it never gets old and the tears never dry up as well at the end of it either.
I miss John Candy.

I miss him, too, Rolo. He was a great comedian, and from what I've read about him, a pretty good person, too.

I've got to say that Dec 1st storm still looking really interesting at this point. I've never seen anything like the low thats its showing in the last 4 years I've been watching the GFS, its still a long way off, but its looking like a open low that digs in, in the Ohio Valley that pulls the COLD air in, I just know its not like a traditional low that brings the warmer air with it?? I'm still hopeful at this point and its getting close to game time! Is it a sign of a phazing storm? and then zips back to the NW? (similiar to the '77 phasing?
I had 2 other posts that must've went into cyberspace earlier about it on the 6z run.. now its just seeing how much we trust the GFS on the 150 hr! lol

Correction, this is the Jan '78 phasing and its looking pretty similiar to the setup that the GFS is showing at this point?

I went through the Jan 78 blizzard in Ohio. Although I can't give you any "analytical common sense discussion " on that storm like the banned one would have me do,I can tell you it was one heck of a snow event. Mountains of snow covered buses and buildings, power out for weeks, snow dumped in the Miami river, it was something else.
