Sunday Afternoon Thoughts

Good afternoon, everyone. It’s a frigid day in the bluegrass state with a few bonus flakes showing up across central and eastern Kentucky. Huh, I guess it can still snow around here. 🙂 As we roll forward, we are tracking a cold start to the week before another storm system moves our way.

Temps tonight drop into the low and middle teens with a wind chill into the single digits.  A mix of sun and clouds will be with us on Monday and there’s a small chance for some flakes in the west. Temps will generally range from the mid 20s to low 30s, but the wind will make it feel much colder.

Our late week system continues to look like a system that moves right on top of us by late this week into the weekend. That low should then transfer energy to another low along the east coast. Those types of systems usually bring us rain that can end as some snow.

Here’s the Canadian…

After some seasonal chill behind that, temps should bounce back before the pattern sends additional troughs into the eastern half of the country…

That should also have an active southern jet stream with it. Let’s see if this can deliver some winter weather around here.

Enjoy your day and take care.

Cold Air Finally Arrives

Good Sunday, everyone. After a wet and VERY windy Saturday, arctic cold temps have finally arrived in the bluegrass state. This cold as been AWOL for the past month or so and for some, it’s the coldest since early November. That’s when we had record cold and record snows around here.

Temps out there today are generally in the 20s with a mix of sun and clouds. Wind chills are likely in the single digits this morning then into the teens for the afternoon.

This sets the stage for a very cold night with lows in the teens and wind chills in the low and single digits. Highs on Monday are back in the 20s with wind chills in the teens. A weak system is dropping across the west and may provide the region with a few snowflakes.

From there, the next thing to watch for is a late week system that comes rolling our way. This looks to take a track from west to east right on top of us, with rain that can go over to a little snow. This looks to be a pretty slow-moving system that’s cut off from the main flow…

That’s all I got for you crazy kids to start the day. Much more coming up on the afternoon update. Make it a good Sunday and take care.

Saturday Afternoon Update

Good afternoon, everyone. High winds continue to push across the region as arctic air surges in from the northwest, setting the stage for a very cold few days ahead. Looking down the road, the late week storm system continues to track farther southeast.

Many areas have had wind gusts of 40mph with a few spots topping out at greater than 50mph. These gusts will continue until our cold front drops in this evening, then the winds finally begin to some down some. That’s also when our temps crash and that may lead to a couple of snowflakes flying around. The Hi Res NAM is showing this…

Here are your radars to follow the action…

The temp plunge is pretty prolific with many areas in the upper teens by Sunday morning. Wind chills over the next few days continue to show up on the frigid side…

An upper level system dives southward into the region late Monday and early Tuesday. This may have enough moisture to spit out some flakes, especially across the west.

The trend on the late week storm continues to focus farther south with each model run. The Euro has rain and some snow showing up…

So does the Canadian…

The GFS is also seeing this now…

Finally, there’s a little something to track for winter weather lovers! 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your day and take care.
