Good Sunday to one and all. Wow is the weather word of the weekend. That’s what a lot of people are saying about the conditions across our region right now. This is a very wild weather pattern we are in and we have actually been in it for a while now. Extreme has become the new normal and another extreme event is on tap as a snowstorm gets set to slam the Appalachian Mountains.
This snowstorm may bring a touch of snow to far eastern Kentucky tonight into early Monday. Here’s a crude map I put together of how this bad boy may play out just to our east…
Areas from West Virginia into Pennsylvania may get hammered with more than a foot of heavy, wet snow. The numbers from the new NAM actually had one area in West Virginia getting 33″ of snow. Wow! There could be a lot of destruction and power outs for those areas over the next several days.
Most of Kentucky will see a mix of sun and clouds today and Monday with a scattered shower or two possible. Temps will generally run in the 50s for highs. Winds are going to be a big player during this time with gusts of 30mph+ likely at times.
Much warmer air will fight in here late Tuesday into Wednesday and may spawn a stray shower. Readings may surge toward 80 by Wednesday afternoon and evening ahead of a strong cold front. That may set the state for strong or severe thunderstorms late Wednesday into early Thursday.
The front should settle just to our south late Thursday and early Friday with chilly air trying to work back in…
That front may then work back to the north and become stationary by next weekend…
That’s something for us to watch out for and could mean rounds of storms and heavy rain as the warm air tries to take control again.
Like I said… “wow” is the weather word of the weekend. Have a great Sunday and take care.
