Good Friday everybody and welcome to the weekend. Things are finally beginning to warm up around here and just as our thermometers rise.. the chance for showers and thunderstorms works into town. That’s not a bad thing at all. We are a little bit dry across the central and east and the west is already in a severe drought. Any rain will be welcome. Can we hold it off until after the weekend? Probably not.
Today’s temps will hit the low and mid 80s across the entire state as we bask in mostly sunny skies. This will still be a very pleasant day, but nothing like the September stuff of the past week.
Temps take off for Saturday with highs hitting the mid and upper 80s. The western half of the state may hit the 90 degree mark as we hang on to a mainly sunny sky.
A few clouds will increase Saturday night into Sunday as moisture begins to work in from the south. The Gulf of Mexico is loaded with juice and some of that will be drawn all the way northward into the Ohio Valley. Afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will be possible Sunday and this may try to keep our temps down a tad compared to Saturday.
Showers and storms will then really increase for Monday through Wednesday as a cold front inches closer from the northwest. The combination of that front and the gulf moisture could lead to some locally heavy rain totals during this time. It’s a setup that can actually lead to slow-moving storms that cause some localized flash flooding. Overall… a general half to one inch of rain may fall during this time.
Temps will begin to come back down with readings closer to normal. The GFS Ensembles suggest some below normal temps for a few days. Here’s the look for next Thursday…
After the hottest spring on record… the heat is having a tough go at getting established across the eastern part of the country.
Have a great Friday and an even better weekend. Take care.
