Good Friday everyone and welcome to the start of the weekend. We have made it through another very pleasant week of weather across the bluegrass state. Now, it’s time to turn the heat up over the next week as we go into a more typical summertime pattern. Cooler and wetter signs continue to show up by the end of next week into the following week.
Our Friday will feature temps in the middle 80s for most of central and eastern Kentucky. The west will see upper 80s to near 90. Everyone will notice an uptick in humidity levels and this should be able to touch off an isolated storm… especially in the south.
Saturday will feature more humidity filter in here and that means a small increase in the shower and thunderstorm threat. Emphasis on the word small. Highs will be around 90 in the west with upper 80s central and east.
I’m becoming more optimistic about thunderstorm threat for late Sunday into Monday. A weak cold front drops in from the northwest, but never actually pushes through here. It does get close enough to be the focal point to get a few storms going and the NAM is rather bullish on the boomers…
If those storms are real… temps could get knocked down several degrees from Saturday’s numbers.
As we talked about a few days ago… a surge of very warm or hot air is likely to work in by Tuesday and Wednesday. This has the potential to drop some low 90s across much of the bluegrass state. The European Model looks toasty…
The hottest air goes to our north… that’s something we have been seeing for most of the month. You will also notice quite the push of cool air across the northern plains states by Thursday. That’s the air the models have been picking up on for a while now. That is forecast to move into much of the eastern half of the country by late next week into the following week.
The GFS Ensembles Temp Departure forecast map for the June 22-28 period…
The ensembles continue with a very strong signal for below normal temps during this period. Going from hot to below normal may also give us the threat for some booming thunderstorms and much needed rain late next week.
Have a wonderful Friday and take care.
