Good Monday everyone. Our record setting heat wave went out with a bang Sunday night with rounds of booming thunderstorms across the state. These storms were big wind makers and caused some damage and knocked out power to thousands. The storms also brought some welcome rainfall and it appears we are setting the stage for more storms over the next several days.
Record highs went down in flames again on Sunday. Much of the state topped out in the 100-105 degree range for the fourth day in a row. Only 1936 can lay claim to a hotter stretch than the one we just had. Think about that one for just a moment. The record setting heat wave of the past 4 days is an instant legend we will be talking about for decades to come.
We really aren’t done with this heat wave, it’s just that we are past the hottest part of it. Highs this week will run in the 90s for most of Kentucky and any one day can spit out a local 100 degree temperature. That is all dependent on the amount of sunshine we get on a given day.
We have a much more active atmosphere out there and that was evident by those storms last night. Rounds of showers and storms will get cranking through the 4th of July, at least. Any storm can deliver damaging winds and hail. These storms will also be efficient rainers and that will go a long way for those areas getting under them.
Let’s get you some tracking toys to play with…
I will have updates as needed so check back. Your twitter feed is also on standby for blow up should any storms get cranking today.
Have a wonderful Monday and take care.
