Severe Storms Tracker
Good Thursday evening everyone. The threat for severe thunderstorms will be increasing this evening across the western part of Kentucky. This is an area already under a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH until 11pm CDT. Here’s a look at the watch outline and the current warnings…
Damaging winds are the main threat with large hail also possible. Don’t forget to hit the radar link at the top of the page and track the storms on First Alert Defender. Here’s the more general regional radar to follow the storms progress…

I will have updates as needed and will send out warnings and additional information via twitter. Follow me: @kentuckyweather .
Enjoy the evening and take care.
Storms and September Air Moving Back In
Good Thursday everyone. Temps today will head toward the warmer side of the thermometer, but it simply isn’t going to last. A strong cold front is barreling toward the bluegrass state and this bad boy will bring showers and thunderstorms and another big push of September temps.
High temps today will reach 90 or a bit better in the west and the mid and upper 80s for most of central and eastern Kentucky. Clouds will slowly increase from west to east and some scattered showers and storms will begin to move our way by late this afternoon into the evening. There is the chance of some strong or severe storms across the western half of the state. Here’s what you need to track the boomers…

Watches

The cold front will move in early Friday as showers and thunderstorms become more widespread across the entire state. Will we get rid of the rain in time for the kickoff of the high school football season? I think it’s a very close call for some areas and I will be watching it and keeping you up to date.
The cool air push coming in behind the front continues to look very impressive with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s this weekend and early next week. The overall pattern continues to look like one that will produce below normal temps for the next few weeks. The GFS Ensembles show the cool air anomalies very well…
That’s pretty impressive for the Dog Days of Summer.
I will update the storm threat as needed. Have a great Thursday and take care.
