Thursday Evening Update

Good evening, everyone. We are rolling our way into a spring pattern that can send temps to near record highs as we roll into next week. While we track this, the overall setup continue to show sigs of winter fighting back as we close the door on February and say hello to March.

Temps as we roll into Friday will hit the 60-65 degree range for many. Skies could stay mostly sunny as gusty southwesterly winds kick in.

Saturday will feature temps in the 60s before showers move in here during the afternoon and evening…

That moves out on Sunday with temps making a run into the 65-70 degree range. This leads us into the start of the week with highs ranging from 70-75 degrees for many areas. Records may be challenged during this time.

A cutoff low spinning across the Gulf states can throw enough moisture our way to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms by Wednesday…

Temps late next week may wind up going much warmer as we get a pattern changing storm to move our way. This wipes out the warmth with showers and thunderstorms…

For perspective on just how much the pattern is forecast to change. Take a look at the 500mb maps from early next week to early the following week…

That’s actually a pretty good look for cold and snow lovers across the country. As I’ve said, this isn’t a pattern that will go straight into true spring. Winter won’t just go away without a parting shot or two.

Enjoy the evening and take care.

Spring Fever ALERT

Good Thursday to one and all. We are issuing a full blown Spring Fever ALERT for the entire region. This will start on Friday and run through all of next week. What? You thought we only issue Winter Storm Alerts around here? 🙂 Well, we have yet to have a Threat this winter, let alone an Alert. I’m more than cool with that.

Highs today will warm into the upper 40s across the east and into the low 50s west. Skies stay partly to mostly sunny with gusty winds kicking in.

Readings for Friday should warm toward the low 60s with mostly sunny sky. That gets our weekend off and running on a gorgeous note.

The only problem with the forecast comes later Saturday into Saturday night. That’s when a weak system throws some showers our way…

GFS

Sunday afternoon will find skies breaking out into sunshine as temps surge into the 65-70 degree range for most. That sets the stage for any one day to reach the 70s next week. There is also the chance for a shower or thunderstorm to develop by the middle of the week…

GFS 3

A much stronger system then slowly works our way by next weekend. Temps ahead of this storm can get a little crazy on a strong southwesterly flow. That system then looks to crush our spring run…

I will update things later today. Make it a good one and take care.
