Wednesday Evening Update

Good evening, gang. We are rolling our way into a milder pattern, but it’s a pattern that continues to look on the active side of things. Before we get to all that, we have one more frigid night ahead of us.

The northwesterly wind flow continues to produce some narrow bands of snow showers. A few of these dropped local half to 1″ accumulations earlier this morning in narrow corridors. Track the plume off Lake Michigan into Kentucky…

Lows tonight will drop back into the middle teens for many, with pockets of low teens showing up in the cold valleys.

Thursday looks much better with skies becoming partly sunny as temps hit 40 in the far east and 50 in the west.

Clouds will quickly thicken Thursday night with showers arriving on Friday. That’s ahead of a cold front that sweeps in here Friday night and early Saturday with a seasonal chill behind it.

Milder winds will blow on Sunday and Monday, with highs on Monday looking warmer and warmer. Several models now have the 70s in the west…

Most of the state should actually surge deep into the 60s, at least.

Late day showers and thunderstorms will increase along another cold front dropping in from the northwest…

The cold air coming behind that front should only give us a glancing blow for the middle of the week. Much milder air is now showing up for the end of next week as southwesterly winds crank…

Those temps may be ahead of a potent storm system that has a strong to severe thunderstorm look to it…

Here’s another showing up on the models a few days after that…

The two week rainfall forecast map from the GFS shows the action targeting our region into the deep south…

Once our winter interlude is over, the seasonal setup continues to scream severe weather in our region.

Enjoy the evening and take care.

More Typical March Weather Is On The Way

Good Wednesday, everyone. We have another day of bitterly cold temperatures for the middle of March, but better days are on the way. Of course, when your thermometer hits rock bottom, the only way to go is up. 🙂 This doesn’t mean all is well in our weather world, but it’s a start.

Today will find temps in the teens with single digit wind chills to start the Ides Of March. Afternoon highs reach the upper 20s and low 30s for the central and east, with mid 30s in the west. There can still be some flurries or a snow shower on the move…

Lows by Thursday morning are deep into the teens once again before bouncing back in a much better way in the afternoon. Highs should reach the 40s for many.

Winds will really crank on Friday with temps hitting the 60s in the west and low and mid 50s elsewhere…

That surge of better air is ahead of a cold front, bringing gusty showers in here Friday afternoon and evening…

Chilly air moves in on Saturday with the possibility of a snowflake. That air won’t last long as we should surge back through the 50s on Sunday. Monday may see temps spike deep into the 60s with 70 possible in the west…

That mild up is also ahead of another cold front bringing showers and some thunderstorms back into town Monday night and Tuesday…

How much of a push of cold comes in behind that front? This will be something for us to track into next week. I go back and forth on how far south I think that front can get. It could put a battle zone of winter weather across the Ohio Valley.

It could also spin up a classic spring thunderstorm look…

We will see how this one plays out. I’m pretty sure you guys know which side of the weather fight I’m on. #springfever

I will update things later today. Make it a good one and take care.
