Monday Afternoon Update

Good afternoon, folks. We have a very windy day with rounds of showers and thunderstorms impacting the region. Some of these can be strong, but this is likely the opening act for some wild weather on the way for later this week. We may go from severe storms to snow showers in a 24 hour period. Yowza.

A potent storm moves into the Ohio Valley on Wednesday, creating lines of strong to severe storms racing across the region. The SPC has much of the state in a slight risk for severe storms…

The 3km NAM shows a healthy line of severe storms racing eastward across the state Wednesday afternoon and evening…

Ahead of that, temps may make a run at 80 degrees on a strong southwesterly wind.

Behind the front… look out. The weather for Thursday and Friday looks about as nasty as you can get this time of year, with a shot of winter weather moving in. Wrap around rain and snow showers will be likely as winds gust to 40mph…

Highs may struggle to get to 40 degrees both days, and I can’t rule out a little slushy accumulation Thursday night across the east. The GFS keeps showing this potential…

That winter shot will be short-lived with much above normal temps returning next weekend. 80 degree high temps will be possible by Monday.

How is that for some crazy?

I will update things later tonight. Make it a good one and take care.

A Fun Week Of Spring Break Weather

Good Monday, everyone. It’s spring break week for many school systems across the state, so the kiddos are hoping for some good weather. Unfortunately, mother nature has different ideas. Rounds of thunderstorms and the potential for some snowflakes highlight the forecast this week.

Let’s begin with today and roll forward. Gusty showers and thunderstorms will rumble in from the southwest. Some of the storms may be strong or locally severe, especially across the south. I have your tracking tools…

That action moves away later Tuesday with warm southwesterly winds continuing. Those winds will REALLY crank on Wednesday as another potent storm moves into the Ohio Valley. As this storm wraps up, we will need to watch for strong and severe storms developing ahead of it…

That’s a lot of wind energy showing up with that low, so it wouldn’t take much for storms to bring that down to the surface.

MUCH colder air quickly wraps in behind this for Thursday and Friday. Wraparound rain and snow showers will be possible during this time…

Here’s where the GFS thinks will see some snow flying…

Outside of very warm weather around Christmas, there’s nothing worse than cold weather in the spring. U-G-L-Y.

The good news is, the cold is in and out in a few days. Temps by Sunday and Monday will shoot way up there and may flirt with 80…

One extreme to the other… That’s Kentucky Weather (and I’m not just talking about ne on twitter ;))

Make it a great Monday and take care.
