Tracking Snow Showers and Squalls

Good evening, everyone. Snow showers and squalls are working across the region, putting down some hit and run accumulations. This continues to be part of a very wintry looking patter that shows little sign of making the flip to true spring.

The snow showers and squalls are REALLY putting it down in a few spots, and we are getting the thunder reports I talked about in the last post. Some local 1″-2″ amounts are possible through tonight…

A Winter Weather Advisory is out for many areas of central and eastern Kentucky…

The flakes will end quickly from west to east early Wednesday, with cold air hanging tough. That changes for Thursday with highs reaching the low and middle 50s.

Another system then moves in for Friday and Saturday, with some chilly showers and even the potential for some wet flakes to mix in. Sigh.

Better weather then moves in on Sunday as temps make a run into the 50s with some sunshine. Once again, this is not going to last very long. Another low pressure works across the region by Monday night and Tuesday, and this is taking on more and more of a winter look.

Most models are ugly with this system. The European…

Sticking with the theme of “there’s nothing spring looking about this pattern”, I offer you the 7 day temp (March 21-28)departure from the European Ensembles…

What the what is going on around here?

A Very Active March Pattern Continues

Good Tuesday, everyone. It’s been a heck of a March, as Old Man Winter is ruling the weather across Kentucky and surrounding areas. The winter “theme” continues to be with us as I look down the weather road. That doesn’t mean we won’t have a few spring-like days in there, but winter does not want to go away.

We have a strong northwesterly wind flow kicking in today and this will carry us through Wednesday. That means snow showers and squalls will be likely across the eastern half of the state. Thunder? Light accumulations are possible, with some local streaks of up to an inch possible.

Temps today and Wednesday will be hard pressed to get out of the 30s. Gusty winds make it feel even colder.

Thursday looks like a MUCH better day with highs heading toward the 50s with some sunshine. Take advantage of that because another system works in here on Friday. This may bring some light rain and mixed precipitation to Kentucky and may have another system right behind it…

After a very cold start to Saturday, temps rebound quickly and we may really mild it up for a few days. That may also come with the potential for some showers and storms into early next week, with colder air coming right back…

That’s a very ugly looking system.

As mentioned, colder air will then surge back in here by the middle of the week and that shows up well on the European Ensembles…

That doesn’t look to go away very quickly as the colder than normal look is also there as we head into the final week of March…

The same ensembles are also showing the potential for some… GULP… additional snow chances…

I will update things later today, but I leave with your tracking tools for the day…
