Saturday Night Update

Good evening, folks. I gotta admit, the weather out there today was flat out awesome and has “spring” CB out in full force. As nice as today was, Sunday is looking even better. Enjoy it because winter is returning for the week ahead and it looks like our second half of winter is loading up.

Temps on Sunday are deep into the 50s with a mix of sun and a few high clouds. Those clouds will thicken on Monday as a cold front drops in from the northwest. That front brings some late day showers in here, but temps are still in the 50s.

A second front arrives later Tuesday and that one has a nice push of cold air behind it through the end of the week…

A strong northwest flow kicks in behind that front and that will push our temps below freezing for highs. Overnight wind chills may dip into the high single digits.

That same northwest wind is also good for a few flurries and snow showers for Wednesday and early Thursday. You can see the areas the Ensembles show with some snowflakes…

The late week and weekend system shows up differently on all the models as we see several of them exhibiting their usual biases. The GFS is too flat and the European is holding too much energy back in the southwest. The Canadian ain’t having none of that…

I am certainly not ready to bite on anything like that, but, unlike any storm system in the past month, cold air will already be in place ahead of whatever develops.

I will see you later tonight with a full update. Make it a good one and take care.

The Colder Trend Continues For Next Week

Good Saturday, everyone. We have a much better looking and feeling weekend kicking off across the bluegrass state. Dry skies and mild temps should make for a few pleasant couple of days. As we look into next week and beyond, the pattern continues to look colder and colder, with winter threatening to finally lock in.

Rain is hanging tough across eastern Kentucky to start the day, but moves out pretty quickly…

Temps today are in the upper 40s to middle 50s as skies quickly clear behind the early morning rain in the east. Your Sunday looks even better with temps deep into the 50s and a mix of sun and afternoon clouds.

A cold front rolls in late Monday with gusty showers along and ahead of it. We will be able to squeeze one more mild day out of this, but the next front arriving later Tuesday puts an end to that. The trough digging in behind it continues to show a lot more staying power through the second half of next week…

That’s some pretty cold air associated with that and the northwesterly flow may produce some flurries or snow showers on Wednesday.

That sets the stage for the next system to sweep in by the end of the week into next weekend. That will have additional cold to work with and has a chance to produce some winter weather around here.

The Canadian…

The new version of the GFS…

I will have another update later today. Enjoy your Saturday and take care.
