Severe Weather Potential

Good evening, everyone. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the potential for strong or severe storms later tonight into Thursday. It’s a threat that has some legs, especially later in the day into the evening hours.

The initial severe weather threat tonight is across areas of western Kentucky…

That line of storms will diminish the farther east it gets late tonight into early Thursday. From there, the threat for another line of storms will increase later in the day into the evening, especially in central Kentucky. That’s where the current Slight Risk is…

If we can get some sun in the afternoon, that would mean a bigger threat would exist. Damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes would be possible.

High winds are going to become an issue tonight through Thursday evening. Gusts of 50mph or a little greater will be possible.

I leave you with the storm tracking tools…

Another Potent System Ahead

Good Wednesday, everyone. This is straight out of the broken record section, but another potent storm system is set to impact the weather across Kentucky. This will bring high winds, strong storms, heavy rain and a big temperature drop over the next few days.

Winds really increase out there today and could reach 40mph or greater by tonight. There is a small shower chance during the day. Temps surge into the 60s ahead of a line of showers and storms racing in from the west. A few of the storms may even be strong or severe  across western Kentucky. The SPC has a low Risk out in the far west…

One line of showers and storms reaches central Kentucky overnight and early Thursday. Some of those storms may be strong, but should diminish early on. That would allow temps to spike toward 70 or a little better in central and east. As the front moves in from the west, another line of showers and storms will fire during the late afternoon and evening. Once again, some of those storms may become strong or locally severe. Here’s the Thursday Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…

Watch how all this plays out…

Temps on Friday take a dive as the day wears on, with the chance for late day showers. I can’t even rule out a snowflake in the north or east Friday night.

The pattern beyond that will feature a few systems dropping in on our northwest flow. These should be mainly rain makers, but some winter weather can’t be ruled out…

Just give me spring and be done with it! Ugh.

I leave you the radars to track the action to the west. The interactive radar has live storm chaser streams from the severe storms and blizzard part of this massive storm. Take it for a ride…

I will update as needed later today. Make it a good one and take care.
