Severe Threat Far Western Kentucky

Good afternoon, everyone. Showers and thunderstorms are rolling across parts of the region, but additional thunderstorms to our west may pose a severe risk for some. Areas of far western Kentucky are under the gun for the severe potential.

Here’s the Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…

Damaging winds, large hail and a brief tornado or two will be possible in this region.

Expect the severe threat to diminish rapidly the farther east the storms get tonight, leaving central and eastern parts of the state with some run of the mill action.

Tracking An Increase In Showers and Storms

Good Sunday, folks. Thermometer readings are increasing today, but rain is getting ready to crash the party. Showers and thunderstorms will increase later in the day across the western half of the state and that action will slowly roll to the east.

Temps ahead of the showers and storms will hit the 60s on a gusty southwesterly wind flow. Those winds will crank as the action slowly increases. Track away…

Showers and some thunder rolls into Monday as colder air works in. This chill will be with us into Tuesday, but skies become mostly sunny. Milder air takes control by Wednesday, with readings heading toward 70 by the second half of the week as skies stay dry.

The pattern is primed for another big storm system in the plains as mild air is across the east and cold air invades the west…

That can fire up some decent thunderstorms from the plains into our region, but what happens after that? Some of the models are suggesting this pattern tries to become more established as we close March and say hello to April…

If that’s the case, it’s super active in terms of thunderstorms and rain. That isn’t exactly a shock now is it?

Have a great Sunday and take care.
