Good Sunday, everyone. First and foremost… let’s give it up for the weather we’ve had out there over this holiday weekend. This really is as good as it gets for the 4th of July weekend. Heck… we would be jumping for joy if we had these temps on Labor Day weekend.
The focus of the forecast now turns to an increasing threat for showers and thunderstorms in the coming days. The pattern is also showing the potential for additional shots of cool air over the next few weeks.
Let’s start with today and hit the fast forward button. Highs will be in the low and mid 80s in central and eastern Kentucky with upper 80s in the west. Humidity levels and high clouds will increase as the day wears on.
A few storms will go up on Monday and some of these could be on the strong side. Muggy air pushes back in with highs in the mid to upper 80s for many. The threat for widespread showers and storms cranks up for Tuesday into Wednesday as a cold front moves into the area.
The models differ on what to do with this front. Some keep it around, while others push it farther to the south. The closer it stays to Kentucky, the better the rain chances for later in the week into the coming weekend. The Canadian Model is going all in on heavy rain over the next week and change…
The GFS has a similar look, but isn’t as extreme…
Our friend, the European Model is going with more of a push of cooler air causing the front to drop to out south for the end of the week. Check out the below normal readings form that model by Wednesday…
The European Model brings an even bigger push of cool air by early the following week. Check out the big dip…
That equals another huge dump of cool air into the central and eastern half of the country…
The European model was the first one to pick out the 4th of July cool spell. So… it has that going for it. 🙂
Have a great Sunday and take care.
I like this forecast. A little but of everything. All in moderation. I can handle this type of July. The occasional break from the humidity is the real hero scenario.
But/bit. Dern typos.
Thanks Chris. This weekend has been as near perfect as one could want weather wise. On the other hand, it is getting dry and we could use some rain as well. I like mid 80s, and welcome the lower humidity. But it is summertime, so I like the summer weather too. I will welcome some rain but hope we don’t get too much of a good thing! Have a great Sunday, everyone!! Thanks again Chris for. The update.
Something that I didnt think to needed to be monitored might need to be. The abnormally dry conditions that is slowly but surely starting to take hold of the commonwealth depending are where your at. Really need the rain to do its thing this week some places are getting close to 3 inches below normal. Models have been really overduing the rainfall amounts so its hard for me to much faith in what there saying. If the rain doesnt pan out in the next few days and we go into a dry spell…. just saying needs to be monitored.
Some Louisville mets are starting to say how dry it is in that area, I think because most of the official rain gauges have seen decent rains this is overshadowing the very dry spots!
I picked up a half inch of rain last week and other than a drop here or there, that’s it in the past month. Right around 2 inches since Derby. Combine the weeks of hot weather with a ton of bright sunshine and lots of drying winds and it’s really becoming a big deal. I’m hoping this week delivers but until I see it, I won’t believe it.
I’ll believe it when it happens. 😉
Our local weather observer here in n.e. ky says we are 3 inches below normal rainfall for this area. Sure don’t want a flood of rain, but a good slow, steady rain for a day or so would be great for the lawns and gardens. Guess we can keep on hoping for something, maybe on Tuesday?
The GFS is showing 1-3 inches of rain for most of ky this week, 1 inch would be nice at this point but 3 or more is needed!
