Good Monday, folks. We have a powerful cold front surging into the region today and this will create rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Some of these could be strong with some MUCH needed rainfall likely. What comes after the storms will steal the weather show. Record to near record cold temps are possible this week.
We need rain! The recent underperforming storms of the past 10 days have really dried things out and you saw that coming into play with the scorching temps on Sunday. Today’s front has a good shot at bringing beneficial rainfall to the region into early Tuesday. Some areas do run the risk of too much of a good thing and we will have to watch for local high water issues.
A few of the storms may be strong or locally severe… especially across the southern half of the state.
Temps will be MUCH cooler today and may not get much past the upper 70s to low 80s because of clouds and rain. Those numbers may be the warmest we see all week. Check out the huge dip in the jet stream coming over the next few days…
That is something straight out of winter and isn’t something you see a lot in summer. The cool numbers coming in behind this could be record setters for lows and lowest high temps. The NAM has low and mid 70s for Tuesday…
Record lows may go down by Wednesday morning with upper 40s to low 50s possible with clear skies. Check out the GFS numbers…
We will keep the 70s for highs Wednesday into Thursday with a partly sunny sky. A potential old fashioned rain maker will try to work our way by Friday into Saturday. The European Model…
That could be a VERY cool rain… if it actually materializes.
Ok… let’s get your Monday weather trackers out there…
Today’s risk area
Current watches
Have a great day and take care.
WE GOT RAIN!!! take that Rain Nazi!
Radar was looking impressive but looks like storms are disappearing AGAIN…Just don’t understand it..
Firing up again…Come on rain..You can do it…
Best chance for stronger storms looks to be concentrated in south/southeastern Kentucky today. just as long as this morning precip lifts / dissipates enough for clearing.
We have had almost an inch and a half of rain since around 11pm last night. That’s a good thing! Still three inches below normal. Here’s hoping we can get some more.
Kelly, I know you finally got rain this time dont deny it either. lol
You bet I did. I had 1.82 inches in my rain gauge this morning. That is nearly equal to what I had gotten since May 1. My trees are happy and so am I. Hoping for more today and hoping that Todd gets some.
.30 we are still on the short side again, some areas to the south and west got 1-2 inch totals, atleast got a little but no drought buster here that’s forsure!
Finally got rain…almost 0.33″ at my location in Valley Station so far. It’s not much compared to some locations surrounding me. 1-2″ was common from Fairdale to J’Town including Louisville Int’l.
Valley Station seems to miss out alot not sure why that is.
For once I was in the sweet spot. Bowman Field area had missed out so many times but was in the bullseye last night. The border collies were stressed during the storm but it was worth it.
Cannot wait for the cooler weather to move in. it feels like a rain forest or jungle out here in Laurel county today.
Big, noisy thunderstorm with very strong winds just blew through London. Looks like there might be some tree damage around.
Quiet a few power outages. My power was out about 4 hours.Hasn’t been back on very long and I can hear thunder rolling in again.Did get a good bit of much needed rain.
Rained early today, then the sun came out and it was like a heat wave for awhile.Once it clouded back over its not to bad.
Very nice rain came through Crab Orchard today. 🙂
a nice line of rain moving through Indiana and southern Illinois.
I hope it sticks together as it moves through Kentucky.
These thunder storms are acting like their big brother, the snow storm. Very disappointing.
The fade begins, frankfort rainless streak continues!
Todd, did you not receive any rainfall last night?
Nvm I just read your earlier post .30 last night for in your neck of the woods. .33 in my neck of the woods and zilch for this evening rain fell apart again lol
I don’t understand how anyone can be complaining about the temps? Its not even been hot this summer at all. 91-93 degrees is not what I would consider to be hot at all. Its even struggled to get that warm.
Ummmmmm…… noooo just yesterday Louisville hit a high of 97 degrees with no struggles. If im not mistaken that was the hottest high temp Louisville has seen in two years. Pretty much statewide yesterday it was well into the 90’s. P.S. 91-93 is pretty hot in my opinion probably in most people’s opinion to be quite honest.
Louisville is very different from where I live, Im surrounded by woods and farm land, Louisville is surrounded by concrete and asphalt. its not a surprise that the temps you’ve seen there is hotter than surrounding areas.
Agreed. Statewide yesterday though it was hot with temps will into the 90’s. But in general its been a fairly mild summer all things considering.
Wow..Look at all the rain in Tenn..Wish my garden was in Tenn. right now..LOL..Oh well,it is what it is..
