Good Wednesday, everyone. September air is set to move back into the bluegrass state and it’s announcing its arrival with showers and storms. These storms could be on the strong side later today and I have the blog all set to track the action.
Let’s break down the pattern before we watch for storms.
The storms will increase from northwest to southeast this afternoon and evening. Some of these could be strong with torrential rains. This will continue into early Thursday in southern and southeastern Kentucky as our cold front drops in.
Highs Thursday will range from the mid to upper 70s for many with even cooler air working in Thursday night. Check out the lows from the GFS for Friday morning…
Highs Friday afternoon will hit the upper 70s to low 80s with partly sunny skies. Warmer air fights in this weekend and could bring some clusters of storms moving in from the northwest. We will need to watch that setup.
All of that is ahead of a HUGE dip in the jet stream that takes up residence across the eastern half of the country early next week…
That will crank our additional showers and storms ahead of it Sunday into early Monday. The big news will be the amount of cool air coming in behind this. It may rival what we just went through a few weeks ago. The GFS has lost its mind with the amount of cold possible. Check out the forecast lows for Tuesday…
We are NOT going to see temps drop into the 30s next week… that’s absurd. But, that is the first time in my career I’ve seen a model forecast that at any point in the summer.
The overall very cool theme carries us into the start of August…

Have a great day and take care.
If I see 30s in July, Im going to simply SNAP! and it wont be pretty for the first person I come across that dares to try to tell me that this is because of Man Made Global Warming. SNAP!!!
The 30’s? Even the 40’s and 50’s are crazy for July. If there are 30’s that would be hysterically insane.
Christmas in July?
Do you snap when you see 70s in January?
70’s happen a lot in January….I don’t think 30’s have ever happened in July, have they?
I really hope this winter is the coldest and snowiest in history because I am moving to Florida next summer, and snow/frigid cold doesn’t exist there! I have no idea when is the next time after this winter I will see snow again!
I thought you moved from Florida to Kentucky?
Yes, now I’m moving back. My life is a little complicated. I just try to keep it simple. π
Not sure about global warming or man made global warming but for as cool as this summer has been here I read that globally May and June are the warmest on record. It was amazing all the places that were having their warmest conditions ever. And how the oceans that cover a large percentage of the Earth are showing warmer temps. Then again it is not happening at my place so I am sure this is just something someone made up. I may need to SNAP as well if someone tries to tell me that.
Global cooling! Break out the carbon and use it like you’ll lose it!!! π π
It’s the weather, so is what it is. One thing it is not, and that is controlled by anything besides the weather. Mother nature laughs at the ManBearPig π
Your sense of humor is more than I can take. You crack me up.
Wouldn’t care what they called it if they wasn’t so quick to tax me on it.
Having breakfast this morning with the neighbors. I showed their 5 year old daughter the maps on this post. I explained what each of the colors represented. She said, “look at all of that red so far up there, it’s like we swapped our colors for what people up there have. We are cooler, so that means they are warmer.”
5 years old and already more insightful than either of the first two posters today.
I feel sorry for Virgil.
The GFS is “out to lunch”. π
Thanks Chris. Been reading everyday but been too busy at work to post. I don’t mind some cool weather but I am not going to dis the hot weather. It should be hot…it is the middle of summer….but the GFS calls for 30s for lows next week is just ridiculous! Don’t think it will get that cold, but as you said, Chris, it is more of the same pattern we have seen for quite a while now. Got some outdoor work to do, so cooler temps are a good thing. Thing is, I don’t mind the warmer temps, unless the humidity gets up there. Yesterday was brutal in terms of humidity. We did get up to 93 on my back porch but the heat index was terrible. Got a few sprinkles last night but nothing much. In any event, from looking at the current radar, it would appear that a lot of us are going to get wet at some point today, it this stuff holds together. Everyone have a great hump day, and stay cool! Thanks again Chris for all you do.

And if we DO see temps drop into the 30’s next week? Time to take those plants indoors next week, you don’t want frost to kill them! Besides, I’m going on vacation all next week on a cruise to the Bahamas. I really hope tropical depression number 2 doesn’t form. Good thing it’s forecasted to weaken.
if i could make the kind of money that some of these people that preach climate change are makeing i would be screaming global warming every time the sun came out
who are these scientist that are making all this money.
Al Gore is not a scientist.
would it be better financially to be a sellout spokesman for the fossil fuel companies.
hey I am open minded if you can suggest a book written by a reputable scientist that denies climate change I will read it.
back to more important matters.
I see the typical under performing split has arrived in Louisville.
Well duh!?! Did you actually expect different results? lol
I am through with the GFS.
I hope it’s more accurate during the winter.
maybe the Global change deniers are onto something. these computer weather models have many inaccuracies in their forecast. Lol
Good thing for me that I am relaxing at my local cigar lounge while Danville gets wet outside. π
Mid to Upper 40’s would be impressive cool for this time of year.
All-time record lows for July are as follows:
Lexington: 47
Frankfort: 48
Louisville: 49
Bowling Green: 46
Lexington has never dropped below 39 in meterological summer. That happened on June 1, 1966.
The rain a no show again in east frankfort, this drought is getting ugly!
Looks like a few cells are developing SW of Lexington and heading NE. Maybe, just maybe, we can get a few drops squeezed out over our dry ground. Fingers crossed.
according to the wave three guys, the next rain event is a better set up for ky.
I hope so because today was a typical dry out for Lewisville.
Rain did go NE but still missed us. Lawrence and Boyd did get a hit but the whole thing scooted off to the SE. Rats! However, the air is already cooler here.
