Good Monday, folks. The more things change, the more they stay the same. That’s a very appropriate saying for the world of weather this week. The overall setup will change, but the actual weather conditions will be similar to what we’ve been dealing with in recent weeks. That doesn’t bode well for our Labor Day Weekend.
Some steam and some scattered storms will be back on the weather menu today through Wednesday. A cold front will enter the picture by Thursday and Friday, but won’t be able to fully clear the region. Cristobal will likely be a miss for the east coast, but the slow movement of that storm clogs up the pattern behind it.
Here’s how the pattern is looking for the holiday weekend…
A healthy supply of moisture looks to be setting up from the western Gulf of Mexico right on into the bluegrass state. The end result will be muggy air and more showers and thunderstorms…
We are pretty much locked into a wet pattern into early September, at least. Some of my analog year suggest we will need to watch the Gulf of Mexico for tropical development that could enter the mix. This is also a pattern that should feature above normal temps for much of our region through the middle of September.
Here we go with another day of tracking…

Enjoy the day and take care.
More of the same? Yeeeeech! Bring on autumn. 🙂 Cool, crisp, crystal clear days. Brisk nights with cookouts, fireplaces, friends and family etc. The fragrance and beauty of changing colors. Can’t wait
Agree bring on fall hate summer I just wish we could get a good cool down….
Chris, just wanted to bring to your attention that the Active Warnings at the bottom right of the home screen are not working. They have changed in several days.
I don’t hate any season. Each has their own unique characteristics that I like plus I enjoy their changing. 🙂
This sounds an awful lot like my uncle when I asked him why he kept getting married so many times. 😉
Haha! I am only getting married once more in my life. 😉
LOL! Thanks for a good laugh. I about snorted at work oops 🙂
You and me both, Jeff. I can always find something beautiful in each seasons uniqueness. Love them all.
The front doesn’t need to clear the region, it just needs to clear my neighborhood. 😉
The average high right now is 85.

I guess this puts an end to the cool hype on here. A few degrees below normal and 66 to 78 dew points do not feel “cool” to anyone who didn’t move here from somewhere else, even if the temp counts as “below normal”. Looks like MJ won out on this one prediction wise.
I moved to KY from CA in 2001. The humidity has been the biggest adjustment for me.
What cool hype? You trying to say this hasn’t been a much cooler than normal summer? Who is MJ and what did he win?
Below normal is just that… BELOW NORMAL. How many forecasts were showing wall to wall 90s over the past week across all of central and eastern Kentucky? The answer: Many. The fact remains this has been a much colder than normal year and that comes after 2013 was another colder than normal year. In 2012 I was accused of hyping heat by all these same people because a week away I was forecast 100 degree temps with one day at 104. We had 7 days in a 2 week period with 100 degrees and had a high of 105.
Haters gonna hate! This summer has been quite on the cool side, not a single 100 degree day to be had in Central Kentucky. Heck I don’t think there has even been a 97 in Central Kentucky. Those that think it has been a hot summer obviously can’t handle any real heat.
What’s the Farmer’s Almanac rumbling and grumbling about? Didn’t it predict a mild winter last year? If so, shouldn’t we be happy that this year is predicted to be cold? 🙂
Ready for September and October 2 of my favorite weather months!
Just saw something interesting, Lexington is over 9 inches of rain for the month, 20 miles north west at my hood in frankfort 3.4 for the month! Lexington 6 inches more rain than my area just down the road?
Did Beth send you the $100 she owes you? 😀
Show me where he admitted to getting rain.
Thanks Chris. We have been awfully lucky over the past two or three days here in our part of the state. We had a bad storm last Wednesday, but since then, we have seen just a little bit of rain. The stormy pattern has split right around us. We have seen some great light shows, but no storms. I still say our luck will run out before too much longer. At least the chances for the state are less for the next couple of days. Maybe some of those folks who have been in the line of the storms will get a chance to dry out a little bit. I sure hope so. Have a great Monday everyone and thanks again Chris for keeping us updated and informed. Second to none, as usual.
Did you say “above normal” Ahhhhhhhh YEAH!!!
