Good Monday and Happy Labor Day. The ninth month of the year is upon is and things are starting out with a few storms. Rounds of showers and storms have been common this summer and that pattern is rolling into early fall. Remember, today is the start of meteorological fall. You now have my permission to go shopping for mums. 🙂
Showers and storms today won’t be as widespread as what we had Saturday and Sunday. We will see some action out there, but you will also get some dry times to go along with the humid conditions.
A cold front rolls our way later tonight into Tuesday. That will fire off another round of showers and storms…
A few strong storms will be possible as that front swings through. It won’t have much cool air coming in behind it. As a matter of fact, things will be steamy for the second half of the week and that should fuel a few more storms.
A greater threat for showers and storms will swing in here by Friday and Saturday…
That’s ahead of a stronger front that will have a bigger push of cooler air coming in behind it. It could also be a strong storm maker around here. Overall, the first few weeks of September should run above normal. That shows up well on the CFS…
That same model run shows things averaging cooler later in the month…
Now that we are into September, I will start focusing more and more on the fall and winter patterns. That’s right… tell your family, friends, neighbors, or just a random person off the street. Winter talk is back on the blog!
I leave you with some Labor Day radars..

Have a great day and take care.
Thank you Chris winter talk is back ya…..
Yes to winter talk! Can you believe our first snow is possible next month? Just like last year’s first flakes were in October! Although it could come as late as December like in 2012.
Hurrah! Winter talk!
Yes I love this time of the year on the Blog!!!!!!! Winter talk where is Rolo? I hope everyone has a great Labor Day.
Here is all you need to know about winter talk: it ain’t gonna snow that much. Trends and all that. 😉
Love,
Bubba G 😀
It snowed A LOT last winter here in central KY and Louisville. Hoping to see even more this year.
Chris has laid down the gauntlet!!!
It snowed a lot at my house too!
Now that I’m a full time bus driver my eyes will be tuned in to this channel all day long on those snowy days
Every one have a great Labor Day!
Oh yeah, it’s only 16 Sundays till
Christmas. Lol !!!
Uh oh winter talk! I’m ready! I’ve missed everyone!
I was thinking the same thing. I didn’t visit the site much over the summer but as we get closer to winter I will be here more often.
Uh, CB, how about you do an official fall forecast before worrying about winter?
90 degree average temp where you live with the rest of the state below normal. You will also have drought while the rest of the state receives above normal rainfall. The rest of the state will get snow in November, but it will all miss where you live. 😉
Looking forward to it but I do have to admit I was alittle tired of snow last year which is a great thing. More tired of rearranging our schedules than the snow I think.
This summer ended up being about as close to normal as you can get here in Louisville. According to Belski, the city was .4 degrees below normal with 32 days in the 90’s but an impressive 13 days in the 70’s. 45 days above normal and 41 days below normal. For rain, we ended up .33 inches above normal. That rain could have been more but it’s been pretty much high and dry here this weekend. Ready for fall.
At least it looks like the Louisville football game tonight might avoid any lightning delays.
Indeed, a few weak storms around Louisville have given up the ghost in the last hour. Pretty much the only t-storm activity at the moment in Kentucky and Tennessee is a new cell that has popped up near Lexington (KY).
