Good Saturday, friends. A strong cold front is crossing the bluegrass state today and is bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms. There is some good news coming in behind it as much better air moves in for Sunday. This looks to be just a little preview of what’s on the way for late next week into next weekend.
Today is not going to be a total washout, but scattered showers and storms will be on the move. These storms will contain locally heavy rains and a lot of lightning.
Sunday’s weather looks much, much better with lower humidity levels and highs in the upper 70s for many. There is still the smallest chance for a lingering shower in the southeast.
The big changes come next week when an even stronger cold front dives in from the northwest. This front is likely to have waves of heavy rain producing showers and storms ahead of it from late Tuesday through Thursday. The main story is what comes behind it… a blast of fall air.
Check out how far below normal the temps are from the GFS…
If the models are to be believed… highs on a few days may not get out of the 60s…
Lows next weekend should be able to drop well into the 40s across our region.
The GFS Ensembles suggest the cool weather will stick around for a while. Check out the 5 day average temperature anomaly forecast…
Looks like other sites are agreeing with the cool weather on the way.I love days in the 60s and low 70s so I am looking forward to the cool down.I suspect our 90s are over and very few 80s left.
Going to be another long winter unless something changes it seems.
All the rain is going to make me mow the lawn at least another time or two, then the leaf raking will begin.I like winter but our long, steep hill makes its difficult and especially due to being shaded.Last year the battle to keep pipes from freezing got really old.
All we can do is plan for whatever may come.
Thanks for all the maps and the great details.I am here every day but some days I can’t post for whatever reason. But I do read every ones comments.I enjoy all the details everyone posts.
Most storms formed to the south of us so we have had only a few sprinkles and a few rumbles of thunder. Lots of sticky humidity! Hurry up cooler weather…can’t wait. Temps are starting to drop a little…it’s 79 degrees.
Thanks Chris. I won’t lie and say I am ready for 60 degree days. I don’t mind a cool down and I know fall weather is coming. I am just not quite ready to give up summer yet. Now if you wait about another 3-4 weeks and ask me, I will most likely be ready. Have to get that late summer vacation in first! I know, by then it will even be calendar fall, but until we get back from Florida, it’s still summer;).
with all that rain that happened in town on Thursday we did not get a single drop at Clay’s Ferry. and again today with all the rain in town. it sprinkled for a second and did not even get the deck wet.
