Good Monday, folks. Warmer than normal weather continues across the bluegrass state, but things are about to take a chilly change. A powerful fall cold front will arrive later this week and unleash a blast of chill that takes us into the coming weekend.
Temps today through Thursday will likely range from the upper 70s to low 80s for most areas. A shower or two will continue to be possible across southeastern Kentucky today, but most areas stay dry.
Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely along and ahead of our late week front. This action arrives later Thursday from west to east…
Once the front zips through, we will need to watch for a possible disturbance diving in from the northwest later Saturday…
That’s a heck of a cold shot showing up on the European Model. It’s no wonder when you look at how deep this trough is…
Highs on Saturday may struggle to get out of the low 60s with gusty winds and the possibility of a stray shower. Some 30s will likely show up by Sunday morning if skies can clear.
Additional cold air shots show up in the next few weeks. Speaking of the next few weeks, the GFS Ensembles Forecast for the time period around October 6th shows some interesting analog years…
1976, 2002, 1965 and 1979 are years that featured a developing El Nino… similar to what we’re seeing now. How did those winters turn out across the country?
THAT is one cold map for much of the country.
Enjoy your day and take care.
Gonna try to post.Hasn’t let me post the last couple of days.
Really looking forward to the upcoming cool temps. Its starting to get a bit warm for me but I am trying to enjoy it while it lasts.Would guess there won’t be much more warm weather after this week.Of course there can always be the random few days here and there.
Once it cools a bit I am hoping to get most my cold weather preparations finished up.Making plans in case I have to hibernate.
Wishing everyone a great day.
Would love to be able to narrow in on rain times for Friday! I’m getting married at 6:00! Any thoughts???
Congratulations! Looks like the heaviest rain may be finished by then. Still some showers possible.
Oh, I pray you are right! Thank you so much!
Yes, congratulations Courtney!
Did those analog years also have lots of snows the following winter?
All of those winters had frequent snows across our region. A couple of big storms in there, too. I have some other analog years I’ve been looking at today that were good snow years, too. Interestingly… several of them had big snows in November.
Thanks for that Chris.
Wow, that map looks like a nice one for winter. Maybe we can see a nice big snow or 2.
Now if this unexpected rain would not be falling. I looked around and it was 20% or less everywhere. I am taking some wood down to finish building a new goat pen for this winter. Have a lot of it down there and it turns cloudy and has now been raining fairly hard for the last 10-15 minutes. Luckily I had not tools down there yet. Such is the way of the weather I guess.
Any November predictions?
