Good Sunday, everyone. Rounds of thunderstorms will increase across Kentucky today and some of these could be on the strong or severe side. This begins a three day period where we have to be on guard for the possibility of severe weather.
The stronger storms out there late today could feature large hail and high winds. A surge of warm and unstable air is moving in and that can sometimes create a little spin in the atmosphere. I will have your tracking toys in just a bit.
The bigger action comes with a significant storm system sweeping our way late Monday into Tuesday. This will be a slow mover with rounds of strong and severe storms possible ahead of it. Damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes are possible during this time. The individual threats will have to be fine-tuned as we get closer.
Heavy rainfall is also a very good bet and that could lead to high water issues for some.
The models continue to show this system becoming cut-off from the main flow for the middle and end of the week…
Wet, windy and chilly weather will be common around here during that time. Another shot of chill will follow that up by next weekend.
I have all your tracking tools for today’s storms…

Current watches
I will have updates as needed. Make it a great day and take care.
When are we gonna get a break from worrying about this weather?
no use to worry my friend….just be prepared…..we just take what the lord gives and taketh away…..all jokes aside….i know what you are talking about……..severe weather and tornadoes.
For sure.I guess I am just surprised they were are having to be concerned about this type of weather in October. The expected high winds to come and all this saturated ground can’t be a good thing regarding trees.
Thanks Chris. Left Florida yesterday and driving home we were in upper 80s, but when we got home, the temp was some 30 degrees cooler. That was a definite shock to the system! Really need a break as our yard is out of control! Appreciate you so much for keeping us informed. Have a great Sunday all.
Are we expecting more tornados?
I am sure hoping we don’t get any but as time goes by more sites are saying its possible.TWC has a headline stating.
Multi-Day Severe Outbreak Begins Tonight
Not comforting to read for sure.
Sun is poking through the clouds here in Woodford County. Temp in the 60’s–all in all a nice October day.
I drove around Woodford this afternoon. Lovely scenery. It was certainly more comfortable than southern Madison, where the air was moist enough to feel like summer today. We actually beat the WKYT forecast high by 7 degrees in the shade here in the neighborhood.
Really hoping these storms won’t be as bad as being forecast as a possibility. So much for October being a calm month before Winter sets in.
Thanks for all the details Chris. At least with advance warning that the storms are likely we do have a chance to prepare to be as safe as we can be.Tornadoes concern me more than anything else as far as weather simply because they happen so quickly and not one thing we can do about them.
It has been a very nice day today so far.At least a break from the rain.Everything is soaked.Everyone enjoy the sunshine today. We aren’t getting a lot of sun but that is probably a good thing if it holds the temps down.Got to 71 earlier. Some sites are also now saying there is a good possibility of a Severe Outbreak.
Both the GFS and NAM show squall line affecting Arkansas, southeast Missouri, western Tennessee, western Mississippi, and possibly far western Kentucky. Widespread destructive winds/brief tornadoes anywhere along the line. Both models slow this thing down quite a bit for the overnight hours into Tuesday morning. Central and eastern Kentucky may be looking at more of a very heavy rain event with isolated wind damage/brief spin-ups.
