Good Monday afternoon, gang. Let me start out by saying I’m a happy weather camper with the overall thoughts and forecast I’ve had out for days now. Lots of 3″, 4″ and 5″ snow amounts showing up for parts of central and northern Kentucky. For many, this was a record breaking snow day for the date.
Speaking of record breaking snow. This is the most snow cover on record for this date across the United States. A little over 50% of the country was covered in snow as of 7 this morning…
Folks… that’s just absolutely UNREAL to see!
Additional snow showers and squalls will fire up out there this afternoon and evening. Those can put down additional accumulations for some. Crashing temps will mean the wet snow and leftover water will ice up quickly. Slick roads are a given through tonight.
Current temperatures
With record snows, we might as well throw more record cold into the mix. We certainly have that potential to see numbers drop into the high single digits and low teens. Think that’s bad? Say hello to brutal wind chill numbers…
Again… UNREAL. Highs tomorrow will only reach the 20-25 degree range for many with wind chills close to 10 at times.
Another arctic front approaches the region from the northwest by Wednesday night with a band of light snow…
The weekend will feature a rain maker working in and that means temps will return closer to normal. Don’t get used to that… we’re likely to turn cold again for Thanksgiving week with a potential storm in the making for travelers.
I highly doubt this is the last snow we see this November!
Enjoy our Novembrr weather and take care.
Not at my house brother seems like the Fayette County curse strikes again!
I think the emphasis was to the NW markets π
That snow depth chart is impressive for this time of year.
On another note I was reading an article about the ocean temperatures being the warmest ever recorded and were picking up steam. The specifically mentioned the North Pacific saying it: βwarmed far beyond any recorded value.β Just wondering what kind of effect, if any, that would have on the pattern. Guess some more research and reading are needed.
You got NovemBRR right Chris. π
Thanks Chris for all of the updates. Louisville and Lexington are lucky to have two dedicated weather bloggers in you and Brian Goode at Wave 3. I’m enjoying my snow day.
Are those radar returns in Indiana snow shower activity? If so… they developed out of thin air.
Yes, there are some in Louisville right now, as well.
I know the airport (heat island) is going to officially have Louisville down for 2″ of snow.
Well, many of us in NE Louisville ended up with 3-4″. I measured exactly 4″ in Worthington Hills.
Sorry if this message offends anyone from the rainy side of the state. π
Actually 2.9″…more than me again.
I know! It isn’t a surprise.
I mean, most reports that are called in from the East side of Louisville, usually have a higher total. General rule is Hurstbourne and points east….with I-64 and points north. That quadrant seems to get the higher totals more times than not.
that’s actually pretty good. Just 1″ less than this side of town. π
Dixie Hwy Gene Snyder corridor= less snow. Gene Snyder Brownsboro Rd corridor= more snow.
like two different worlds, in the realm of winter weather storms.
As usual West Virginia is all rain. It will get cold and dry followed by a warm up and more rain. Hope everyone in KY and Ohio enjoyed the snow.
Hopkinsville here, they called off school for what exactly?? Oh well back deck got 1/4 inch lol.
Same story, different year. All rain and once cold air gets to us mosture is gone.
bubba rule continues – mosture = 33 degrees and warmer
no moisture – 32 and below
heck, was 21 degrees year before last and wouldnt u know it. Rain. Freezing rain :-/
It’s science!
To Mark from West Virginia, y’alls should be here in Nicholas County. Temp has dropped from 48 to 34 F in two hours and we have a coating from snow on all surfaces – except for the pond of course!
Nicholas County usually does do pretty good even during the dreaded backside/upslope snow events. Where I am near Huntington that is the dead zone for snow.
The snow was a bust in Irvine! Better luck next time!
Dairy Queen BOGOF Blizzard for anyone with snow today. Got ours.
Thanks for reminding! I know where desert is coming from tonight π
Missed an “s”…… Now I’m thirsty.
Snowing good here and nothing on the radar.
After living in the North-Montana, Wisconsin and Washington- for a good part of my youth…and living through true WINTERS….I would love to have a deep blanket of snow to mellow the cold and act as a natural insulator. Makes for a warmer, snugger life….oxymoronic or ironic!?
This will probably a common theme all Winter, a storm track that favors Louisville, Southern Indiana and up into Northern kentucky. Those of us snow starved hillbillies in central and eastern KY will probably get the typical heavy rain followed by a few flurries.
CB needs to just target his blog towards the Louisville area. Who knows, maybe CB will become a Cardinals fan as well.
What we need is one tracking near the border of Tennessee/West Virginia a few days out and then we might get it π
That actually makes some sense….
no, with the northwest trend, we need one to hug the gulf coast, maybe then it will drop the bomb on us.
Those that track Tenn/WVirginia always track the Appalachian mountains and bomb E.KY.
Just came out of a pretty good flurry NE Fayette. Very, very cold…was 24 degrees by my vehicle reading.
Great start for the Lexington area to what could be a memorable Winter.
Sure hope the folks to the south and east ( WacoGirl! ) get some snow love soon. Keep the faith or you can always come stay with us π
No flurries here in London. Heck they evaporate before getting in. LOL
Does Bailey even acknowledge us hillbillies down here?
Yes CB does acknowledge but apparently the snow God’s do not.
Yea, it’s the snow God’s way of saying, “take that and all your blowtorch talk and put it where the sun doesn’t shine.” Or something like that. lol
yes CB loves us down here, he is not GOD so he cant give u snow.
Thin layer of ice with a light dusting of snow.Almost an inch and one half of rain.Flurries are flying pretty good now.Wind has picked up more and the temp is at 26 at the moment.Very cold.
Just an appetizer before we get the main course in Mid Dec….Really like the Tracks some Met’s are predicting for this winter..Southern and South Eastern Ky you have been warned…
With the windchill on my ride home I t was easily as bitter as anything I saw last year… windchill has to be in the single digits out there! Is it really mid-November!?!? This is so rad!
Not even a deck duster here in Richmond only a few flakes flying around in the air. At least school wasn’t cancelled.
My new model: Take the axis three days out and shift it 75 miles northwest. Let’s see if that holds for the next system from the southwest…
Mike…I have been following KWC for five winter seasons and before that I followed John Belski…the North West trend always wins. In Louisville I hate being in the sweet spot 24 hrs out. Almost always warms up with the rain/snow line “fence” setting up along the Ohoi River. Your new model thoughts are a good bet.
We have a good snow shower dusting the ground right now. Looks like we may get a few more on the way here in NEKY.
