Good evening, gang. This was the coldest November day since 1976 for many of us. Record lows and record cold highs were common across Kentucky today, and it looks like more records could fall tonight.
The super duper high resolution model known as the HRRR shows bitterly cold numbers tonight…
That’s some ugly cold that would require clear skies basically all night long. The NAM doesn’t look that cold, but is cold enough to set records…
I hope you guys understand just how historical this week is for this time of year. To me, this cold is more impressive than the incredible cold shots from last winter. Why? Normal highs right now and mid and high 50s with lows in the 30s. Unreal!!
I will focus on the weekend and turkey week fun and games with the late night post.
Stay warm and take care.
Chris – I know right!………22 for a daytime high temp in middle November! 12 this morning! 2 in Henderson? This morning in Lexington with the snow all over looked like the heart of winter.
Could not believe how cold it felt this morning. Especially with the wind gusts. Guess I was just not ready for it this early in the year. And the road froze solid. Still snow covered in the important places with that ice underneath. Did not think I would make it over the hill even in 4×4 sliding all over this afternoon.
I wonder if long range winter forecasts will show our temps continuing to be as cold, or colder? If so, I need to find some warmer clothes!
Thanks CB! Cold stuff!
Here in Central WV we not only had the lowest high temp at 18 F but we whupped the butt off the cold record too. Today’s record low of 16 F was shattered. As of 21.45 this evening we are down to 7 F and the mercury is still dropping. BTW The Weather Channel desktop is showing 14 F for us by 22.00 – WAY wrong! And falling to 9 F by 6 am. Based on my estimates we will wake up to a low of around 2 F tomorrow morning, breaking the old (2005) 14 F record for tomorrow as well!
8 degrees in frankfort, crazy!
Bad time for my heat to quit. 🙁 hopefully i get it fixed in day or two
Im wondering if we will warm up late dec into jan. seems like we get a warm up around that time frame. few years back it did that and seems like it did a year after that. 2006 into 2007. And 2007 going into 2008 maybe? sounds right. Thinking warm spell ended by tornado warnings at end of jan 2008 then cold air arrived, it got bitter cold.
This cold weather spell has been amazing. i cant remember it being this cold in november. in 1976 i was too young to remember the cold. hoping if its gonna get cold we get in on some snow this winter and not a cold rain like last couple winter’s patterns have been for southeast , eastern and southern ky. northern ky does well every winter seems like.
