Good Sunday afternoon… again. When your friendly weatherdude is updating things frequently, you know I’m seeing a lot of potential in the weather pattern. The European Model is seeing that potential and taking it above and beyond.
This model continues to throw a POTENTIAL big winter storm our way by the end of the week. It’s also showing the sneaky snow system I’ve talked about from late Wednesday into Thursday…
That one is showing up more and more as we inch closer to it. I
The end of the week/weekend storm on the European Model continues to show up strongly. The signal for this has been there for a while, so I’m not surprised. If you want a winter storm to hit all of Kentucky, the track on the latest European Model is the track for you…
The control run of the European Ensembles are very similar…
This POTENTIAL storm is now 5 days away from beginning, so we have to give it a little more attention than something beyond 7 days.
We often talk about a northwest trend in storms as we get closer. I don’t think that’s the case with this one. If anything, we will have to watch to see if this trends farther south and east or even for a much weaker system. Moral of the story… I think it’s more possible to get this thing to basically miss us south than it is to have the storm cut toward the Great Lakes and bring rain.
It’s a very interesting week of weather ahead of us and one that has my full attention… about a week earlier than I thought. BTW… there is another HEALTHY signal for a storm showing up around Christmas.
I may update again later today. Take care.
I just can’t even contain my excitement. Please don’t trend south!
Yes do trend south.id rather georgia and them get it than southeast ky get it.
ummm no! southern and eastern KY is WAY overdue! lol
I love those maps too!
I second your plea to the maps.
🙂
Please don’t trend south!
I want every flake in se ky!!!!
Can somebody tell me how to access those snow maps that Chris posts regularly like the European, GFS, NAM, etc? Anyone have a link?
Google Weather Bell or Wx Bell — this is a very good company it cost about $20 a month but they have a good selection of model products. http://www.weatherbell.com
Thanks so much Chris! Will definitely check this out.
Why do ya all keep talking about snow when there are people like me who don’t like snow?do ya all not understand that?now please stop talking about it for goodness sake.
Good thing the Tennessee Titans will be away for their next game (at Jacksonville) when this possible winter storm come knocking.
Not that the Titans have much NFL playoff hopes this season 😉 .
Doesn’t matter what the weather is where the Titans play…..they are gonna loose…..
Danny it’s fine if you don’t like snow, but yours is not the only opinion allowed here.
The vast majority of posters on this blog are winter lovers (at least of snowfall, if not ice storms). If you can’t get use to that, you may need to find another blog. I’m more of a warm weather fan myself, but I accept that I am in the minority here.
Even I don’t mind an occasional snow. But in my more perfect world, the few snows we get would quickly melt due to warm sunshine. On the other hand, my wife is an avid snow skier.
If the spring severe weather season is more to one’s excitement, that’s only a few months away 😉 .
Normally I’m all for snow, but Saturday I have a 5K and would rather not have to slip and slide on ice and snow…I’m a klutz.
Thanks for the updates, Chris. I am amazed at your dedication. No wonder this is such a popular site. Keep up the great work!
The track is going to go where it wants to go. One thing is for certain, it’s going to change tracks about 200 times from now till the weekend, so there’s no point of worrying or hoping until it starts.
This is looking pretty cool!
Thanks for all the updating, Chris.
What happened to the key that showed the amounts each color represents on the map?
I’ve tried to get a lot of people to start checking the site over the years, but it just never sticks. The response always ends up being something along the lines of “stopped going…why put up visual stuff that only a few people understand…no explanation of the pictures.” etc.
If you read all the text each time, you can get a decent understanding of the model maps in general, but I always have to concede those points to others. Your point is valid on this map in particular as well.
I agree, J.T. The red is, I guess, heavier snow, but how much? Or, is the blue heavier?
Roger liking those maps and hoping they verify! Will be watching very closely this week!
Hopefully it will miss us..
Chris, these models look good for us snow lovers. I am putting all my hope and faith in you on this one. Especially since none of the national or locals have mentioned anything about cold/snow. One thing I will say, you never bought into the blow torch warm wave that has been predicted for us for the past few weeks. One local Met. in my Huntington WV area even had 60’s predicted for a few days last week and this week. I think he has since backed down to the 50’s.
Wonder if Lucy has a real big smile on her face 😉
Without a doubt. And poor Mark who posted right above you put all his cards on the table and will be Lucys first victim.
Never going to happen. I will bet everything I have in my off shore bank account that we don’t get more than a very light dusting.
