Good evening, gang. As we wrap up another dreary day in the bluegrass state, the countdown is on to Christmas! The possibility of a a huge storm system to develop for Christmas Eve and Day continues to be the focus of forecasts all across the eastern half of the country.
The idea of a deepening storm from the Ohio Valley into the Great Lakes still shows up on several of the models. The new version of the GFS shows a wicked, wicked storm for millions of Americans…
That drops the barometric pressure with that storm to 965mb by Christmas morning. WOW! Talk about a HUGE wind maker!
That’s a scenario that would put snow on the ground around and cause blowing snow with winds greater than 40mph. Of course… that is IF that model were to verify.
The UKMET goes out to Christmas Eve morning and appears to be going in a similar direction with a storm lifting northward across the Ohio Valley…
The GFS Ensembles show a huge storm developing a just to our northeast…
The regular run of the soon to be defunct GFS is even trying to go toward the deeper solution…
It is still likely too progressive with things, but even that run would give us very windy weather with rain to snow and snow showers and squalls through Christmas morning.
Confidence in, at least, some snow is rising.
I will update things this evening. Take caer.
Still a week out. Like how the models are agreeing at this point. Not getting to overly excited, but I Do like your vibe.
Thanks for the update CB.
CB knows the models tend to fade, so he is noting that even without a storm it could be windy with snow blowing in the air.
Safe stance. Point out the models but do not go any further. This weekend is a good example. It looked ‘purty’ good for significant snow on average a week out as well.
My point earlier . 7 day models are brutal.
somebody is gonna get pounded with that storm next week ..hopefully us ..im sure everyone will be happy with an ankle biter if that’s what we get …but are we ever gonna get a real good snowstorm that doesn’t involve rain to start….
My bet would be mainly I64 on north and the Kentucky river will behave like the usual snow moat.
It’s about this time of year when I stand on the Clays Ferry bridge an shout “Mr. Snowmiser, tear down this wall!”
Where do you stand! Folks are crazy drivers in that stretch…count the accidents and fatalities…BubbaG and I live nearby and….ugggh…that is an insane road.
Careful. Standing on this bridge may give you an opportunity to meet people with the initials FBI on the back of their coats.
I love this comment. I think he has another wall along the Ohio River border with WV.
ich bin ein “Madison-County”er…
Somebody will but it won’t be central ky.
C’mon snow!
The mods are looking better and better for a good snow here with next weeks storm.
Wow. The models are forecasting 968mb. That’s comparable to the low pressure generated by a category 2 hurricane, no?
Where is ROLO
His work is done. He said the whole winter will be a wild one and we will thaw out in March. Rolo dropped the mic and left the building 🙂
Thank goodness.
Now I won’t know how to bet on the ponies all winter. That is just great.
That storm and the Berea Snow Dome™ look destined to for battle. Two will enter, only one will leave alive!
Dome
I don’t get it. All of the local Louisville mets are already saying there’s nothing to see with this Christmas storm and the odds of a white Christmas for us are very slim. Even Brian Goode over at WAVE, and he’s a true snow fan like a lot of us!
But then CB posts these models that seem to negate that idea completely… What gives?
CB, mind weighing in and shedding some light?
CB gets a kickback from everyone who tries to kick the ball??
That and kickbacks from Kroger 🙂
Brian said tonight Christmas Day could be in he 40’s on his video blog
CB is the euro still showing a big storm just wondering. Still hoping for a distant cousin to the 78 blizzard!!!!!!
was looking at the 78 blizzard on the noaa site and found the old weather maps. looks scarily similar to the gfs. check out the map from January 26

hell with all the models Chris, most of us laypeople haven’t a flippin clue what your talking about. Just plain and simple, is all we need,, hey folks looks like a good chance of blowing snow and wind for the Christmas eve and the following day.. like this would be great.. Thanks
lol, this is a weather blog. If you want your “plain and simple,” go download the Weather Channel app.
honestly – it seems no different than the 70s/80s…..in the 70s, 5 days out was too long to give an accurate forecast. Now, in 2014, same thing. 5 days is too far out..
wont be long till we put out gardens.
when is best time to just throw seeds in ground for tomatoes? dont want frost to get em if i put em too soon. i used to put seeds in ground mid april but i always got late crop.
