Good Monday, everyone. It’s Christmas week and we have a very active weather pattern settling into the region. This will bring some nasty weather our way for holiday travelers. Heavy rain, thunder, high winds and some snow will all be possible in the coming days.
A shower or two will be possible out there today as temps soar well into the 40s.
Current temperatures
Rain will really increase on Tuesday and we could even hear some rumbles of thunder. It was about this same time last year when we had a severe weather outbreak around here. That doesn’t look to be duplicated, but high winds will be a good bet
That’s because a strong storm system develops and rolls right on top of the region late Tuesday into Christmas Eve. The European Model shows the heavy rain, wind and snowflakes wrapping in behind the departing low…
The latest NAM throws a bit of a wrench into the equation as it shows a much farther east and weaker low…
That’s also a colder, quicker solution and would give us a much better chance for snow Christmas Eve into Christmas Morning. It is the NAM, so that’s the first strike against it. But, we will see if it’s sniffing something.
Another cold front will then move our way by the weekend. That one has much colder air pushing into our region and there’s some indication this thing slows down and allows a couple of waves of low pressure to develop along it…
I’ve had a long weekend and that’s all I can show you at this point. I will get back to you regular updates later today.
Make it a great Monday and take care.
CB, welcome back. Glad you made there and back safely.
I’d like to suggest we use this picture whenever we refer to the NAM over the next 72 hours.

SantNAM’s Little Helper!
Yeah. 5 A.M. on a Monday morning.
As far as the coming storm system goes, man I’d be happy for a dusting and a nice continuous stream of flurries in the air. Fair compromise for a White X-mas and people being safe on the roads here in the state.
At least one of the local mets here in Cincinnati/NKY is calling for some snow Christmas Eve into Christmas morning. Not much in the way of snow, but nonetheless it is snow!
Cold rain to festive flakes….or do some other models bring this further east with a chance for a festive snow. I just like that there is even a chance for snow on Xmas eve and morning. Like the looks of the weekend system as well, but that is five days away and we all that story line….LOL. Thanks for the update CB.
Thank you Chris. Well, something to watch and maybe we’ll get a little snow for Christmas.
Prime the pump for late month into January!
Was hoping for it to be little bit colder this week. Local radio giving 60s for most of the week with the coldest day being Xmas with 47 for the high. I don’t know where this is going to rank historically but December has not been much in southern Ky. Nothing real warm and nothing real cold. Just a bunch of in between cloudy gloomy days.
Whatever the case, no ice = win!
Best spin I have 🙂
Sounds good to me. 🙂
Hear! Hear!
I’ll take heavy rain and thunder over ice any day!
Forget the talk of snow vs. no snow for a least a few minutes. I found this on the web several years ago and thought it appropriate! Merry Christmas everyone!

Twas Three Days Before Christmas
Paula Siminski-Christmas ’97
T’was three days before Christmas and all through the house
Not a person was helping, not even my spouse…
The children were restless and what made it worse…
I at my computer typed nonsensical verse!
When what to my poor bloodshot eyes did I see,
But the calendar with three days left glaring at me!!
So off to the kitchen I flew like a flash…
Tore open the cupboards and made a mad dash…
Baking my cookies and stirring my fudge,
Dozing by the sink till someone gave me a nudge!
I still have the present to wrap, and bows to tie
and the house is a disaster I thought with a sigh…
I looked ’round at the mayhem and thought to myself…
Next year will be different…I’ll organize myself!!
I laughed when I heard the traditional phrase
That was made every year and forgot in just days…
So to all those who know me I have one thing to say…
Merry Christmas to all…
JUST DON’T GET IN MY WAY!!!
Merry Monday!!!
Will the Bengals game get rain tonight?
Hope you had a great time on your trip Chris. Glad you are back. Will be great seeing your insight on the pattern ahead and what that could possibly bring.
I wish whatever he uses to forecast temps gets replaced. Already 52 in SE KY, bright sunshine. Makes me wonder will we hit 60 tomorrow.
We may hit it in an hour or two lol….beats ice i guess
Already in the 50s here in knott co as well.
I wouldn’t be surprised if hit 70 in Huntington WV tomorrow. Also if an artic front is coming this weekend, I guess it means drop from 60’s to 40’s cause there is no mention of snow in my area forecast for the next week. I suppose the front might get stopped by the wall at the Ohio River.
At this point, holding on to any hope for a Christmas snow is pretty futile. Just read John Belskis post on Facebook, none of the models bring anything close.
Blowtorch temperatures the next couple days. And I’m fine with that, time to hit the bike and enjoy fresh air as I’m finally getting over a long illness. Sure beats gray, gloomy skies with 40 degree temps.
Some of the other guys I’m following are not buying into a long term cold pattern for January. Feeling good about my call for <10" of snow for both Jackson and London this winter.
Oh well, at least the cats are going to win the ncaa this year and stomp Louisville. That should make CB happy
I agree with you 100% only I think 10 inches might be too high.
