Good Tuesday, everyone. Big changes are in the works for the rest of the week as a strong cold front blasts into the region. Conditions ahead of this will continue to bring some spring to the region. Conditions behind this look more like wintertime.
A warm front is working across the region today and bringing another heck of a temperature gradient with it. Readings across the north may not get out of the 40s as areas of the south and west surge well into the 60s. A few showers will also be possible…
A shower or thunderstorm will be possible on Wednesday as temps make a run toward 70 degrees. Winds will become very gusty as our cold front gets closer to the area. That front swings through here on Thursday with showers and some thunderstorms. This could bring some decent rains our way…
The temperature drop behind that front is pretty darn impressive…
The NAM is trying its very best to produce a band of light snow Thursday evening with another wave of low pressure along the front…
That would certainly make for some interesting hours if it were to verify.
The air grows even colder Friday into Saturday when some snowflakes try to join the party. Highs both days should range from the upper 30s to low 40s. Lows by Saturday morning look frigid for the end of March…
The models vary on the arrival of the next clipper for Monday. I’m firmly pulling for the European Model because it takes the bulk of the action and cold just to our north…
That would allow for a quick warm up behind that by the middle of next week…
Make it a great day and take care.
Thanks Chris. Nice to see you back on the air. Would be better if you had better weather news but ah well. Have s great Tuesday everyone. Time to go to work.
So which of these “tree winters” comes first?
I believe redbud comes first, followed by dogwood, locust & blackberry. Blackberry is not a tree, of course, but besides dogwood, it’s one of the most well known.
I believe you’ve got it right, DjC. I don’t very often hear of locust winter, I’d forgotten about that one.
That warm-up for next week sounds really great!
Beyond middle of next week the GFS has been showing a monster east coast storm. It picked it up dropped it and is now picking it up again although a little weaker. I’m planning a trip to Dale Hollow Lake in Albany for Easter weekend. Here is hoping the GFS is on crack because it is now putting snow on the ground. Ugh.
Well, it the current temps map is right then it’s now 65 in London while I freeze up here in Lexington at 43 degrees. I just came in from being outside for a little while and I’m chilled to the bone. Time to fix a cup of hot chocolate. Amazing there could be such a big temperature swing over such a short distance. Also amazing how 3 weeks ago this temperature would have felt relatively warm to me but now I’m freezing.
Agreed, Faye.
I work outside in Lexington and ditched a layer around 2:00 PM.
Then got rained on and much colder about an hour later. Crazy!
Thanks for all Chris.
What a crazy contrast in temps today! 70 in London, and 48 in Richmond. That’s not much distance for such a huge change in temperature.
Lots of lightning strikes this evening in Missouri and southern Illinois. Kind of a sign of things to come. At this time, the SPC feels that most severe wx the next 36 or so hours will stay north and west of the Ohio/Mississippi Rivers. Damaging winds and some hail look to have the higher chances, with a rather low twister threat.
Of course, much warmer temperatures on the way for those places that are still chilly, at least for a short time. Nashville hit 77 degrees today 🙂 .
