Good Saturday, everyone. Rounds of thunderstorms will rumble across the bluegrass state today and some of these could be strong or severe. Heavy rains will also accompany the storms, with the potential for some local high water issues.
General run of the mill showers and storms will be around for the first half of the day as a warm front slides through the state. This front will only get so far to the north before slowing down as low pressure sweeps in from the west. Areas along and south of that front and track of the low will have the best threat for severe storms.
Damaging winds, very large hail and a few tornadoes will be possible later this afternoon into the evening. That’s especially true for areas that break out into some sunshine and see thermometers climb into the upper 60s and 70s.
Speaking of temperatures… a 30 degree or greater temperature gradient is likely to be noted across the state today.
As usual, I have all your tracking toys…
Today’s risk area
Current watches
I will have updates as needed. Take care.
If my area here southwest of Louisville does not appear to support severe weather, I will be heading toward the I-65 corridor where Bernheim Forest, Clermont exit and report from there.
I’m heading to Columbia in Adair County. SPC toned down the tornado talk in the latest outlook. I’ll be on my boat at Green River to ride it out.
SPC just updated about 20 minutes ago and still a relatively low tornado risk. But there remains a decent hail threat, including for large hail. Stay safe everyone!
Thanks Chris. Hopefully your later tweet will pan out but I will be watching and give you info from Somerset. Could have told you we would have some type of bad weather today though… It’s the first Somernites Cruise weekend of the year. Always happens. Oh well. Stay safe everyone and have a great Saturday.
Driving back from Bowling Green today so this should be fun. 😉
Just arrived at Bowling Green from Lexington this morning. Feels warmer and sun is trying to break the clouds but still overcast at this moment. Not looking forward to this severe weather, looks like I drove straight into the bullseye of this threat.
Yeah it`s already 60 here.
In Bowling Green it`s 64, and the sun is starting to break through the clouds.
Sun starting to break out in London too
Storms along gulf coast will lower our chances of severe weather
The focal point for severe weather will be along the warm front in Kentucky, unrelated to what’s going on in the deep south.
How is it looking for tornados now? Any new information? Timing of storms in Mercer county?
