Good Sunday, everyone. A cold front is pushing to our east today and that’s taking the showers and thunderstorms with it. Much colder than normal air is pushing back into the region and that’s likely to set the stage for more frost. There is some hope in the longer range as our pattern turns milder for Kentucky Derby Weekend.
Morning showers quickly work to our east as skies become partly sunny. Temps will be rather cool with upper 50s and low 60s for highs with breezy conditions.
Temps over the next couple of mornings will drop deep into the 30s and could bottom out around the freezing mark for some…
Green thumbs… you know the drill.
Highs will continue to range from the upper 50s and low 60s through the middle of the week. That’s when a few showers will be possible as a slow moving storm moves out of the Gulf of Mexico and up the east coast…
That will then slowly move away in time for Derby weekend. The GFS turns things warm…
Oaks Day
Derby Day
The European isn’t as quick with the warm temps, but all of the models suggest dry times.
Enjoy your Sunday and take care.
Sorry about any damage for our neighbors to the south but thankful this was a non-event for Lexington in terms of severe weather last night.
I am really ready for drier and warmer weather.
There’s not a single story on WKYT about storm damage from yesterday, so my understanding would be that despite all of the warnings across central KY that any damage must have been minimal. There was the usual flood of pics on CB’s Twitter from people who’ve never seen large hail before and want to share their discovery. I’m just glad that people didn’t get hurt or killed from all of that mess yesterday.
I hope the warmer air temps for weekend don’t include higher humidity and dew points.
This spring has been a doozie. Hail last night bigger than hen egg. Frost and freezes. Rain so wet can’t get garden planted.
Afraid when mother nature turns water spigot off gonna be long hot and dry summer.
Thanks Chris. Looking forward to some dry days and a chance to get a little outside work done without having to do it in mud. Thanks for all you and your KYT staff did last night to keep everyone informed. While we were fortunate in the fact that ours came so deep
Into the evening others are dealing with hail and wind damage. Could have been a lot worse. Have a great Sunday everyone.
Chris,
I was surprised that there were tornadoes with temperatures. Around 50 degrees. Isn’t that very unusual? They also interrupted. The Rosanne Cash concert. We all had to go to the basement.
IT was a Great concert .
It’s somewhat unusual but far from unheard of. There can sometimes be instability and shear for tornadoes even at cooler temperatures. Thunderstorms have happened with temperatures in the 40s; a few years ago, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Little Rock Arkansas even though the ground temperature was only 42 degrees!
Temperatures for April are still a few degrees above normal although it hasn’t felt like it. Today’s high in Covington was 60 which is the normal high this time of year for Green Bay. I guess when temps have been above normal this month it usually has been raining. So it will be nice to be warm AND dry for a change this coming weekend (Derby or no Derby).
