Good Sunday, everyone. Our weather for the first weekend in May is about as good as it gets across the bluegrass state. Heck… this is about as good as it gets for any time of the year. The nice stuff is going to be sticking around for a while as our pattern goes straight into one that looks and feels the part of summer.
Is this a sign of a fast and furious start to summer? The latest CFS suggests the rest of May is warmer than normal around here…
The same model run then reverses that trend for the first half of June…
The rainfall forecast from the CFS through the middle of June basically shows what one would expect with the wet year we have going…
I’m working on the summer forecast for WKYT and will have it out here in another week or so. A strengthening 2nd year El Nino and the impact it will have on our weather is the focus of that forecast.
One thing is for sure… Summer is coming early this week. Highs will be in the 80-85 degree range on most days with only small chances for storms going up. Enjoy!
Take care.
El Ninos usually mean drought for Ky – we’ll see, I guess. I remember the summer of ’99, when the rain in Scott Co. cut off drastically the first of June and never came back. Bad year for my trees.
I will be on the lookout for the summer forecast online at wkyt.com.
Thanks Chris. It’s really been nice the past couple of days! I’ve been down with back issues so not able to do much outside other than sit but that’s been nice too. Temp just right. We will enjoy what we have for now and take it day to day! Have a great Sunday everyone!
Looking forward to seeing the summer forecast as well! Hoping to see a more “normal” summer than we’ve had.
If the relative humidity and dew points stay comfortable then this would be a great month of weather. Temps are irrelevant compared to those as a temp of 85 with low RH and DP would feel much better than tropical feeling air and 70-75 degrees.
I’d also say that the weather from last July 4th period is the high watermark as far as “as good as it gets”. It felt like we all were transported to Alpena, Michigan for a few days. However, this is due to the context of the temps. If we have a below normal June, then a similar blast of air won’t be nearly as big a deal this year.
