Good Wednesday, everyone. We have another strong cold front moving into the bluegrass state with showers and storms on the increase. As the threat for boomers goes up, the temperatures are getting ready to go down. Some more of the good stuff is on the way!
Today’s storms increase from west to east with heavy downpours and the potential for some strong storms. We will have to watch out for the possibility of high winds and hail. Your tracking tools in a bit.
The cold front swings through here early Thursday as showers and storms end from west to east. Temps will be held way down and you can see where the front is on the temperature departure map tomorrow afternoon…
A much better brand of air pushes in during the afternoon and evening as we dry things out. Highs stay in the 70s as skies slowly clear.
Friday’s weather starts in the 50s and ends with upper 70s and low 80s across the state…
While it looks dry for Friday, we have to watch for some low-level moisture hanging around and spitting out an isolated shower.
Saturday will see temps in the 80-85 degree range with partly sunny skies. Another front works in here late Sunday and Monday with an increase in scattered showers and storms. That should unleash another nice shot of air with readings solidly below normal…
I leave you with your storm tracking tools…
Current watches
Have a great day and take care.
All these cold fronts have me dreaming about fall. But I must say all in all, this summer has not been to bad. Other than the monsoons back earlier in the season. Keep up the good work Chris, I have been visitng your website since the early days.
I agree with Tom. The humidity has been off the charts this Summer so I am ready for Fall. This week starts HS football, so you know it’s not too far away.
No, no, no, you’ve got it all wrong. When it’s a couple degrees below normal it’s infinitely more comfortable regardless of a high relative humidity and/or dew point reading! It’s been “cool” all summer 😉
In all seriousness though, the frequent lack of direct sun has made working outside during sooo much easier on the melanoma scale lol.
Thanks Chris. Have been reading but not had a chance to comment.
Don’t mind a little rain, as long as it doesn’t set in as a monsoon season type thing. 😉
Our weather has not really been that bad, but a few nice days are always good, especially on a weekend! Have a great Hump day everyone! Thanks again Chris for all you do!
Football season starts, that means my favorite time of year fall is near!! GO Henderson Co. Colonels!
Question about hurricanes: I thought in the southern hemisphere typhoon’s spin the opposite direction than they do in the northern hemisphere. However, I’m watching satellite vid’s on YouTube and they spin the same direction! Counter Clockwise in both hemispheres…Have I been wrong all the time?
Hurricanes/typhoons do indeed spin counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise south of the equator.
Perhaps what you saw south of the equator were clouds going around a non-tropical High pressure system which spins counter-clockwise in the southern hemisphere (Highs spin clockwise north of the equator).
BTW, you can post the YouTube video here.
It’s kind of late because I’m just reading this so perhaps I will also post this on the new post….Now, these were FULL ON hurricanes I was watching the satellite loops of some of the ones hitting the US and some hitting in the southern hemisphere, and they were both spinning counter clockwise. This is near a southern hemisphere loop and it’s counter clockwise, unless I’m crazy!

That appears to be the Philippines when it was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan; if so, that is still just north of the equator.
Here’s a great drinking game….take a shot every time Chris Bailey says “strong cold front” in June, July, August and September…..you ll never be sober again.
It looks like a line of storms are building up in western Tenn. It could be a night of rain and thunder. My wife and I used to love it when the rumbling thunder lasted during the night. You couldn’t ask for a better sleep. Now my little dog doesn’t let us rest, she is terrified of them. Nothing you can do without giving her a half a benydrill. (sp?) It’s a dand shame we can’t send a bunch of rain out to California’s way.
Yea, Nashville has already had multiple on and off storms today. At one point, part of Davidson County was even under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning although that cell stayed just to the southeast of Nashville.
Thankfully, the dog my wife and I have does ok for the most part although a very close lightning strike would sure send her under the bed when she was a pup. 🙁
We have a shiz shu and she actually knows when storms are coming. The ears perk up and she looks out the window. The first lighting strike she try’s to get as close as she can in the bed.
