Good evening everyone and thanks for blogging. Thanks to all those who took part in the live chat over on wsaz.com… that was fun but wild. We had thousands of questions and I tried to answer as many as I could. Our WINTER STORM ALERT rolls on from Tonight through Wednesday.
Here is a look at the latest warnings…
Nothing has really changed on my part as far as the overall storm is concerned. Heavy snow and Ice moves in overnight and carries us into the first part of Tuesday. I don’t have the chance to make a new snow and ice map for tonight… here is the original one from the weekend that is still looking ok…
Sleet may end up being more of a problem in the mostly snow area and that is why I have such a wide spread in totals. We are rolling into nowcasting time as we have to update this hour by hour.
Radar is already showing stuff blowing up to our west…
I will have more updates later this evening so be sure to check back! Have a good one and take care!
Select Page
So how many proposals did you end up with ๐
never got a question through out of about 30 submitted but thanks for the effort
Come on snow!
TWC and NOAA saying storm shifting south, TWC…. almost put TWX again says 6-12 inches
Thanks Chris…I hope everyone is prepared for this potentially dangerous storm.
OK what due pint like out there, is it hitting ground, get us a check my weather brothers and sisters..
I have been reading this blog all day and I am so confused.lol I live in Richmond, are we getting snow tonight then a change to ice?
I don’t think dew points are mattering that much right now Rolo. Just took a look at St. Louis and they are reporting light snow with a dew point of 12.
NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE YOUR LAST MINUTE PREPARATIONS!!! Just like the say for a hurricane, but his time it is for snow and ice…. Kentucky has not has a good storm like this one in a good while.
Thanks C.B. for the update, and we’ll be right here throught the night along with all of the other bloggers…to let ya know when the first, flake/drop/or pellet hits the ground..I’m favoring a DROP…lol…
I know you’re awfully busy, Chris, and while this blog deals with the entire state, and the TV forecast is for the WSAZ region (Ashland here), I was wondering if you could answer a question for us.
On your accumulation map above, where within those bands of various precip. is the “sweet spot?” In other words, you have the north in 3″-8″. Is the likelihood of greater accumulations closer to the ice line, the top line, or smack in the middle?
Listening to various family members each watching a different forecast this evening, there is some confusion of the overall outlook, even for the same county! I’m guessing the higher accumulations would be toward the middle to lower section of your “Snow/some ice” line. Anyone care to help out a novice yet fervent weather fan?
My wish for us all: that everyone of us would soon be suffering from a temporary case of snow-blindness, free from ice and power outages.
Thank you Chris, for everything. I liked the live Chat, but I just wish that people would have read them instead of wasting your time just asking the same question that others had already asked 3 to 4 times. I guess my questions went to moderation heaven.
I have not seen the info about the low moving southward but really hope it does. I will start watching radars closely now.
Thanks for the update Chris. What would we do without you?
Anyone have any thoughts as to what Lexington will get? I have a conference in the morning at 8.
Nothing here yet, but regional radar is lighting up.
Temp has been 28 and holding since 4:00 CST.
I hope it either rises or falls…28 sounds like a great temp for a nasty ice storm.
Tonight: Freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet. The freezing rain could be heavy at times. Low around 28. Northeast wind between 5 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime ice accumulation of 0.4 to 0.6 of an inch possible. Total nighttime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday: Rain or freezing rain. The freezing rain could be heavy at times. High near 33. Northeast wind between 8 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of 0.4 to 0.6 of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night: Freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet before midnight, then snow and sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain. Low around 25. North northwest wind between 7 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of 0.5 to 0.7 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Wow is all I can say, this is just below madisonville, ky that is 1 to 2 inches of ICE!
matt give us a heads up here in eastern ky..when you start seeing precip…
I could be mistaken, but I believe the general train of though here is the farther north ya go the higher the snow totals are likely to be. Further south will get less snow more sleet/freezing rain.
ok what the temps like up stairs right now, anybody got the low down.
that going to be what to watch as it moves in.
Yeah Adam..I live on the North side of Madisonville…
The local TV stations (out of Evansville) are calling this the winter storm of the decade.
That is saying somthing considering Evansville received 22 inches of snow in 2004.
Is we get that forecast, I probably won’t be blogging for awhile
Still trying to flurry/drizzle here in southern Pike Co. temp 33.
I forget to add in the post that the models were more than 10 degrees too warm today. They had many areas in the upper 30s and most stayed in the 20s.
24.1 in Georgetown, ky which is Scott Co.
Still trying to flurry/drizzle here in southern Pike Co. temp 33.
The temp is 28 in Lexington.
Nothing coming down yet.
I think the people around Louisville and Lexington are under doing it tbh,
Thats good isn’t it! So they could be lower than predicted tomarrow, Right.
alright folks im staying up till the wee hours playing xbox 360 live and blogging on my favorite website!!!!does it get any better????
Jim Cantore is broadcasting live from Paducah for TWC. He hasn’t shaved in a week and is looking scarier than usual. Should be a wild night at the Executive Inn. Paducah people, don’t let you daughters out tonight.
Renee, ditch the 8:00 meeting in Lex. I ditched mine at 8:30.
Seriously, it looks really bad for western kentucky tonight.
yes sir CB i certainly didnt get my 34 in lexington 26 is all we managed at my house, the other “guy” in lex is calling for 5” of snow by dawn in lex, i think thats a little high maybe 1” before the changeover, i favor an almost total icing for lex, infact no snow would not shock me not a nock to you CB i am leaving the science of forecasting and going by reputation with big ole gulf tn valley storms lex has cold+moisture= big ice, heck i hope i am wrong and yea i saw twc has the 6-12” for the northern 1/2 of ky thats a bad bust
It is 25.7 here in Jeffersonville
Hey buddy whats your GT, i go to Scott schools and am looking for someone to discuss this storm with later in the night.
anderson co. at a cool 26
i gotta do homework thered have to be 20” by dawn or 1” of ice for me to get a snowday
I now see the southerly trend that was being mentioned. Does this help with snow or only give more people ice ??
riddle 92, what games you got i got cod:waw, gears 2 , madden 09 you know stuff like that
It should push everything south. including the rain.
Hey another XBL guy here been playing COD WAW myself. Hit me up tag is rabbit389
Well, all I can say is when I a 3 mile commute straight up U.S. 41 from dowtown Madisonville to home. Every store was stuffed with people on the way home at 5:00.
I’ll try to post overnight to keep you updated. I’m prepared for a power loss, even though I kept power in the mess that followed Hurricane Ike when most did not.
I got Gears 2, NCAA 09, NCAA BBall 09, Halo 3, and madden 08. my GT is GGN DarkFear, I will hit you up in about an hour or two.
Bubba, please elabrate on your thoughts.
twc’s cantore live in paducah. you all will see a ice storm similar to 2003 here in lex. expect to loose power for up to 1 week.
Rolo, Is it just me or am I starting to pick up on a little anticipation from you. By the way–song of the day—Anticipation, by (I think) Carly Simon.
alright ill be on all night!!!!
same thing for me tommy uk did get 2 delays last year unlike you i only have mwf classes so i’m more concerned about classes not getting cancelled wednesday.
According to models they are supposed to be cold enough to support snow. 32 line is along the tn/ky border. Just check out a radar and you will be able to see where upper atmosphere temps stand.
No, INaccuweather’s temps are always 2-5 degrees to warm, Lexington is sitting at 25.1
lol gamers, frick this blog is addicting!!!! CB i got hw cant you make it go down for a bit i am trying to do hw!!!! lol jk CB
bubba, mitch, chris, i need some info. I have lil one sick at home & i have a relative that can come get us & we can stay with them if they lose power, but i was just wondering, whats your predications on ice & snow for my area. I’m not really concerned about the snow, but def the ice. How much ice are we possibly looking at with this system. Thanks
I’m not sure I’m buying the southern trend..YET!..I really havent heard Chris mention much about it. and noone has really said much about it to the point of effecting the over all precip. types…but I SURE HOPE ITS TRENDING SOUTH…
would increase snow totals thats why if you go to weather.com the bluegrass region is 6-12in. south is 3-6 extreme is 1-3in. its possible and would be amazing.Earlier today those totals were completely diff. they had bluegrass region 3-6 south 1-3 extreme less than an inch
Song of the moment”Anticipation” by Carly Simon.
The Weather Channel is actual calling for 6-12 inches now for here in lex and surrounding areas. The models must of trended colder with the lastest runs.
Song of the moment”Anticipation” by Carly Simon.
models are trending south which would give us that snow if you looked earlier today they only gave us 3-6 in so something is goin down.
Song of the moment”Anticipation” by Carly Simon.
Where are you in Pike Co?
if your lazy ill post the map for 6-12
http://www.weather.com/maps/news/forecastsummary/floater6_large.html?from=hp_main_maps
Hi , I live in clay co and daughter works in laurel co 2nd shift doesn’t get off work till 12:30. does anyone know what time its supposed to start around this are, very worried about her driving home
yeah Bub what are your thoughts still all rain for SE KY ? or i should say 90%?
do you have to be disrespectful ?
she will be fine nothing heavy suppose to start till after 1. Now im not saying there maybe some light snow cause there could but should be no major problems
yea,lol
spoken like todays youth ๐
Thanks, i hope you are right
Dorton
As a member of your family PastorChris. I must warn you that weather can be an addictive prospect, especially in these unpredictable situations. You have been unable to enjoy a snowy stretch as we had in the 70’s, but hopefully this stays a mostly snow event of large proportions for your children and mine to enjoy. Chris B. stated earlier on one of the blogs that we could stay mostly snow along the Ohio River and I have scene several models showing a trend southerly for the ice line. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for as little as ice as possible for everyone in our state. Stay safe…
Thanks for the info. Looks like Lexington is going to be really fun in the morning. Just remember folks….NOTHING is worth getting out in this if it is bad.
Some people think they just have to go to work….be smart and be safe!
Seems like that was a direct result of the cloud cover.
Lets get this party started, it’s like the night before Christmas.

So, am I understnading correctly when I hear that TWC even has us drawn in snow here? And I saw what I THOUGHT was a southward trend, but I thought it was just wishful thinking.
If it would trend south, that might help all of us out somewhat.
Come on, weather, trend south a little more….please!
By the way, temp here has not gone above
34 all day, and is at 30 right now at my house. (4 degrees cooler than the airport, as usual…
Just got things ready in case we lose power. I’ve the generator inside and will fire it up in the livingroom when the power goes out…LOL Just joking… if anyone will be using a gas powered generator… PLEASE BE SURE NOT TO RUN IT INSIDE. I’m hoping for minimal frz rain down here in Pulaski Co. no power = no blog = the shakes
Sadly, I don’t have XBL. Adam, you might have heard of me. I am known as the “Rubik’s Cube Dude” or something that has to do with Rubik’s Cubes. I too, will be waiting for my phone to buzz, (which it will do) on my favorite blog. Thanks for all the hard work you do for us, CB. ๐
He can give you the heads up, but you guys are getting less than an inch of snow, it will be all rain when it gets there.
Hey! Whats it going to do in Eastern KY?
Coffee lady what is the deal with the thermometer at the airport? I live 7miles east of town and I always have 3 or 4 degrees cooler than they do..even in the summer?
Nope…that was according to my outdoor weather therometer.
However, it is saying 27.9 now.
Would someone please answer her. If not she will post here for hours and then complain no one answers her.
Marsha, I would tell you but I have no clue about weather. All I know is it is could here in Woodford Co. When I wake up in the morning I will tell you if it snowed. JUST NO ICE.
Did you happen to let Mr. Sullivan keep it for a day lol?
That’s the 64,000 dollar question. Besides the TWC, where else are you guys getting that this thing is trending south? CB made a good point that temps were 10 degrees below the forecast. Maybe the pro’s underestimated the cold air. The thing to look for: If the NWS in Morristown, Tn starts issuing advisories or warnings for northern TN, we could be seeing a southerly trend. I noticed that Nashville has issued warnings for NW Tn and metro Nashville.
A little bit of snow, then a little ice, but mostly rain.
That was rude.
From what I’ve seen. Eastern KY should see a little bit of everything. Snow to sleet and frz rain to rain(maybe) back to mix to end as snow…. depending how far north you are in eastern ky will depend on snow totals, ice totals and rain totals…if your north of the mountain pkwy..the better chance of more snow and sleet and less rain.
My blog has a break down on precipitation type every 6 hours starting tonight at midnight. At least what my opinion on what the precip will be.
I believe in the southward trend. Trend, trend, trend, Rolo. You may wind up with what we all dread. This is kinda like following a hurricane. 10-25 miles can change everything. Not so for western ky. Ice just started in WKY, per Cantore and his pre-pubescent beard. TWC is always 100 miles from where they want to be. Read that as you will. Feederband Out. But please, Cats kick my other alma’s ass tomorrow night
Wow, really.. Believe it or not, I just got Xbox live last month- and started playing Halo 3… I’m not as good as some of the other guys on there but still love playin’. My tag is Skip BaylessX22. Highest skill is 33 and i seem to have hit a wall there.. can’t get any higher!
Marsha, I truly don’t think anyone knows what is going to happen. SE KY looks to be the best shot for cold rain but also the best shot for heavy snow at the end of the event. I think everyone gets some of everything. Snow, ice, and freezing rain. Catfans response, while rude was correct, we look out the window in the morning and see what we got. Take care and good luck.
Good point Russ.
alright smart thinkin buy the comments above. now my eyes will be glued to see warnings for tn lol
CB did say during the chat that he saw no significant shift north or south.
I think one thing to watch is the top of Black Mountain.. Currently 30 degrees with a nice SW breeze at 9 mph. If you keep an eye on that I guarantee you it will slowly rise throughout the night (indicating the overrunning). Just an observation..
nashville high tommorow 41
thats weird winds here are out of the east
well look at it this way, we GOT CLOSE AGAIN.LOL
that always the case. sorry all.
u people up north buckle down, it be bad for a few hours tomm.
for you in morgan.co
3-6 snow/sleet
.25-.5 ice
That was my girlfriends cube. I don’t take any classes with Mr. Sullivan. My girlfriend said that he was trying to fix it, but couldn’t get it at all.
They have seemed to have made a few adjustments from earlier in the day, at least for SWVA and the Cumberland Plateau, along the KY border. Inserted snow and sleet back into the forecast, which is not what they had earlier. They issued a special weather statement at 3:00, which just mentions of freezing rain above 2500 ft. Some of these forecasts have since changed a little though.
So, when you say, “As a member of your family…” is that metaphorically speaking, a member of the weather-lover’s family, or an actual relative, i.e. same last name?
If the first two, I agree and am hoping for the big one. If the last one, then HOWDY! I didn’t know you were on here and a weather nut like me!
If not the last one, please disregard the comments of a raging lunatic.
is anybody in the pikeville area blogging are u seeing anything out there
Snow came at the right time this morning, but not very much. Is this one going south?
Wise is at 28 right now, calm winds. Been there for a few house I believe. Certainly not as high up, but another higher elevation site to watch.
please post your url for blog.
Anyone have any thoughts for me in Northern Knott Co?? I have a one hour drive to Jackson, Breathitt co in the morning about 7am. What should I expect?
if the max temp is 31 for the day on tuesday, how does precip fall as sleet? does it have to do with the temp of precip that is falling or the air temp? cornfused. please elaborate
Here is the report from Bell. Current temp in my holler is 36. Today’s high was 40. Something tells me I had better have my umbrella handy.
Everyone please stay safe through this storm whatever it brings.
Tim and Andy, I hope you have the Ark ready!
Not yet!!!! temp 32 degrees in Pikeville
please note though…that the further south you go…the different the criteria for winter weather situations… so say an adivsory in KY might equal WARNING in parts of Tennessee…just a thought though
0z NAM keeps northern madison county north at or below 32 for entire event…at the 850s ALL of ky should be freezing rain and sleet, nowhere according to latest nam should see much snow at all during the day, tommorow night….run has finshed yet, wave one for lex pretty much all ice
ARK is ready marilee….
looks like precip is moving close to bowling green….
watch it CRANK UP, but also look at ttemp map,
that air in east tenn will ride on up.
tonite song
to hot to fish, to hot for golf and TOO COLOOLLD AT HOME by mark chesnut.
Just click on his name, elle.
About what time will it reach eastern kentucky?????????
0z NAM is making me very worried about power outages in some areas. It is sensing the low level cold air now. Look out folks!
Any specific area of concern there? North? South? Lexington? haha
good one rolo…love that song… Any horse picks? The track has been killing me lately
Thanks Chris
Who all is going to stay up with and report their weather?
OK someone please explain what Chris meant. Is he seeing more ice???
Rolo………thanks for answing my question earlier. What and when do you think London will get?
lexington metro is the bullseye as of now. that 00z run of the nam keeping the forecast the same.
Coffeelady has your daughter started home yet?????
here, here, be up all night…
I am going to stay up and report… I wonder where Chris is talking about the ice theart at?
Which reminds me, too bad they don’t report precip out of LNP/Wise. Would be helpful sometimes.
Outside of Kohls waiting on the wife. 28 degrees out here in the van in Richmond. Need CB’s take, since it appears at least that there is a more of a southerly trend, but does this mean more snow or more ice coverage? Need to hope for more sleet, since not as bad as ice.
Somebody put out an APB for Vinny.
the 00z nam keeps those maps above about the same. lex metro to get the worst of this.
CB:
That’s a cheap way to get more hits man…! lol ๐ ๐
…
Power outage = ice
Not me Tim can report mine for me i’m not overly concerned anyways whatever i wake up to thats what i will deal with. Good luck everybody
I’m thinking around midnight we should definitely see something…..that radar map looks to me like it’s moving pretty fast….what do you guys think?
Trained spotters have reported accumulating freezing rain as near as Hopkins County with their surfaqce temps around 27*
F5 http://mjhdp.tripod.com/stormtracker/id17.html?x=78&y=17
Mitch, What’s your updated call?
That’s what I was afraid of!!
I’m right here…???
…
If the school districts are seeing this weather coming why are they not canceling the schools? It looks like the worst Ice/ Snow Storm in a long time. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!
Michael will have some GULFSTREAM plays wed, got info on 1 horse at decent odds. Just waiting on the GO sign.
everything looks good in tomm morning its GO TIME WED.
Amy right now I say it will be after 4am before we see anything start.
Latest RUC model suggest any precip thru midnight would be MIXED for all except extreme north.
Apparently the new NAM is the talk right now. I wonder which part of KY will see the majority of the ice?
Wolfe Co. has already closed for tomorrow due to severe weather.(that’s what their called said)
that or heavy wet snow
Hope that low travels south, but more importantly I hope Keith and Kelli call April about school.
one thing i just thought of if your north of tommy’s 32 line turn your heat up so if you loose power it will take a little longer for your house to cool off.
0z nam gives all of ky 4-6” early wednesday
Thats my girlfriends cube. She can solve it. ๐
I personally think that our district gets a good chuckle knowing how many people have to sit and stare at the tv beginning at 5:30 am. However, I know bus drivers that begin very early runs and need to know ASAP….but heck, why do anything logical? It’s SCHOOL!!!!!
light snow at owensboro.
just checkin bro, hadn’t seen any posts
alright muh peeps doesnt look like i will lose my power till tomm afternoon and mitch you da man i like dos snow totals im so close to8-12!!!
Trained spotter reports FREEZING RAIN in Henderson at 9:21pm. Freezing rain reported as far north as north of I-64 in Indiana. Numerous accidents in Henderson because of ice.
Looks like Paducah is getting slammed….anyone know?
I’m from Knott too. Hindman to be exact. I will be watching the blog closely tonight. What do you think we will get?
HMMM Is it possible that this storm moves further east than it is supposed to and puts south eastern KY in the “Ice Storm”
I am pretty worried at this point here in Whitley Co. because you just never know!
I have a little baby to keep warm! Do hotels keep generators?
I know that there are two things you need in KY. Even if you just use them once in while. A fire place (with wood) and a storm shelter!!!!!!!!!!!
Looking like ice for you too & mix.
liquid amounts are just unbelievable with this thing
Numerous injuries reported.
Jackson says its moving in faster than originally thought..
Mitch honey if i turned my heat up much more my husband would have the big one lol, that is a good idea, and he is asleep lol!!!! Heading toward the thermometer lol
If I had a sick child and the possibility of alternitive heat elsewhere, I would go. It’s better to be safe.
Great to see another blogger from powell!
I’m in freaksters.. Come on over…
…
That makes me angry, that so many people proceed to be out on the roads at a time like this, don’t get me wrong- I know some HAVE to be out at work or whatever but you can’t tell me everyone has to be out.. Not taking weather seriously has killed so many people..
Great to see another blogger from powell!
Not too many from Powell on here. Nice to meet you.
Not sounding too good if you like electricity.
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON KY
911 PM EST MON JAN 26 2009
.SHORT TERM…/THE REST OF TODAY/…UPDATED
THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY DIFFICULT FORECAST TO KEEP UP WITH ALL OF
THE CHANGES IN PRECIPITATION TYPES DURING THIS WINTER EVENT. HAVING
JUST TAKEN A QUICK LOOK AT THE NEW NAM WRF THAT IS COMING IN…IT
WOULD APPEAR THAT THE SYSTEM IS MOVING A LITTLE FASTER WITH THIS NEW
RUN. I DID AN EXTRAPOLATION OF THE LEADING EDGE OF THE PRECIPITATION
ECHOS FROM THE RADAR…AND THIS WOULD ALSO AGREE WITH THE EARLIER
ONSET TIME. THE INITIAL PRECIPITATION TYPE LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE SOME
FREEZING DRIZZLE…THEN MIXING WITH SLEET BEFORE GOING OVER TO SNOW.
THERE WILL BE SOME VARIANCE GOING FROM NORTH TO SOUTH…WITH THE
NORTHERN AREAS MORE LIKELY TO SEE SNOW. WILL WAIT TO SEE THE NEW GFS
BEFORE MAKING ANY SIGNIFICANT CHANGES…BUT I AM LEANING TOWARD MORE
FREEZING RAIN AND LESS SNOW SOUTH OF JACKSON. WILL UPDATE THE WEB AND
ZONES WITHIN THE HOUR.
I JUST TRIED TO TELL MY FRIEND THAT WE WERE GOING TO GET A LOT OF SNOW AND ICE he said if they predicted it it wont happen i said your stupid. lol
My apologies. I wasn’t trying to be rude, but as CB has said it depends on where this thing goes. A few miles makes all the difference. Once again my apologies.
Ouch. The latest Jackson discussion mentions *more* freezing rain than snow/sleet for points south of Jackson (Breathitt County). Can you say Ice Storm.
WILL WAIT TO SEE THE NEW GFS
BEFORE MAKING ANY SIGNIFICANT CHANGES…BUT I AM LEANING TOWARD MORE
FREEZING RAIN AND LESS SNOW SOUTH OF JACKSON. WILL UPDATE THE WEB AND
ZONES WITHIN THE HOUR.
ALL RAIN SHOULD BE FOUND BY NOON ON TUESDAY
FOR MOST LOCATIONS ALONG THE TENNESSEE BORDER. THE END TIME FOR THE
WARNING WILL THUS BE MOVED UP TO NOON ON TUESDAY FOR WAYNE…
MCCREARY… WHITLEY… KNOX… BELL… AND HARLAN COUNTIES.
Turn on TWC
It showed Jim in ky with ice already falling
Paducah already has the ice. He was scraping it off a car he said this could be a catastrophic brutal ice storm and he also said he looks for Interstate to close. Even TWC is saying it is stupid not to close schools he said moderate freezing rain falling right now in Paducah!!!!!!
What do you know KY made the Weather Channel. Looks like Paducha is getting a lot of ice already.
if you live in south ky i feel sorry for you for you will get slammed tonight by what looks like heavy ice
like wise. I am a weather nut! Especially in the winter with all hopes of snow!
Mitch, that’s one of my many “Ice Storm Survival” techniques….also…here’s just a couple more, since I am ‘tween blogs..lol…
**Blankets, flannel sheets, even just plain sheets and “throws”…??- GIT ‘EM OUT of storage NOW!!! Don’t wait until you’re shivering to throw them around yourself, either-the longer you have them on, the more your body heat adapts to them and the cozier you get. Who cares if you think you’re “too hot/sweaty” w/ them “just now”..??!- You’ll be wishing you’d done this hours ago come later on after about 7 hours w/o heat source!
**Take some of your sheets and “double” them, hang them over curtain rods, blind bars, or wth?-NAIL them to the dang wall above each window! You can’t look out, you’ve got nail holes…later in the spring when you’re all nice and warm and ALIVE, you will be smiling when you look out a window as you spackle!:)(I figured this out in Dec 04 ice storm…it works @ keeping heat inside…really!) Don’t forget to lay something (towels, whatever) along the edge of each doorway, even if IS insulated. You’d be shocked @ the amt. of heat you lose just from one itsy-bitsy crack?! I even do this in summer w/the AC on…
**DO NOT…and I cannot say this enough…! DO NOT turn your thermostat waaaay up….that furnace can only do so much…make sure you have a new filter..if not, take it out, vacuum it, stick it back in….it’s got a little more LIFE left!!;) If you crank up the furnace, there is such a thing as “overheating” it…my in-law’s learned this the hard way in 05;she cranked up the heat, he took the trash out 30 min’s later and the roof was a big fireball…enough said! That also goes for over-stoking fireplaces, and don’t think that because you have gas/nat. gas that it will work…wehave gas heat, but the igniter on the furnace is electric…it WON’T WORK!!!?
**Last but not least…gather you and yours into the smallest room, under blankets, etc, and don’t get that ‘carried away”….??- We don’t wanna see any major surprise births around the 21st/Oct….lmao!!!!
WHEW! I’m done!
Nice website! Are you a meteorologist or a student?
28 now in Northern Lawrence County. I hope we can stay all snow.
Just watched Cantore from Paducah (70 Miles West of here) and its ALL freezing rain!
Nothing here in Madisonville other than some light ice/sleet pellets. Will update again as precip moves in.
TEmp is 26 and slowly falling
Precipitation has moved just east of I-65 unknown if any reaching the surface.
ok if the weather channel tells me i could get 9 in of snow im going to believe it they never give that big of snow accum!!!!! no one can tell me no i want to believe this!!lol
alright i believe its time to call school cause i bet most schools will be out might as well call now instead of making us wait
37 in Middlesboro. Is SE KY (except for the high terrain) he warm spot? Not looking good for wintry precip, I would assume?
I am soooo excited!!! Bring on the Snow! I hope Lexington gets hit hard! It’s been a long time since we’ve had a big snow.
TG didnt say anything about that much snow. He was just on Fox 56.
Lincoln- do you mean south west KY or Southeast KY. Im in Whitley Co. If this thing is moving faster than thought doesnt that move the ice storm line?
sister, me too, I’m gonna be up all night. Good thing I have 200 hrs of comp time and work for the state so I can stay home and play with the kids in the snow (I hope). I’m in Frankfort so we should see enough snow to play in.
TG is the very frugal with snow projections ๐
gfs adding new wrinkle this is good news for you folks se for snow!!!!
TJ just said that we should get up to 3″ of tonight, change to freezing rain and then up another 3″ of snow on the backside. So he is forecasing up to 6″ snow total.
Oh Please Mitch, do tell. I really want to put my umbrella away.

Thanks Mitch. Now if I only knew what that meant. ๐

I’m from Hazard, so we’ll have Hazard and Hindman covered. ๐ That’s if this blog accepts my posts.
I posted a reply quite some time ago and it never posted so here goes again. It is in fact the latter and I am a weather nut. In fact I have talked with some friends about a tornado chase at some point in my lifetime. Of course an old fashion whiteout would be great for so many reasons. It looks like the backside of this storm may have a good punch as well. Keep your fingers crossed for a really BIG one. I dont post on here often but have followed Chris Bailey since the days at KYT. He does a great job. Good to talk to you again, hope the family is well…
What’s up with that big green blob right in the middle of the radar returns?
You know u can press alt 411 for the cent sign ยข
Just my 2ยข………:)
so on the snow fall map lincoln put up it looked like maybe London was in the 3-6 cause it sort of droopped down does anyone else see that so mitch what do see for London
Is the track still up in the air? Could this still track more south than north? Experts, tell ne now!
yea theres a narrow band of 3-6 that london looks to be in. This looks like we will get a half of that predicted snow tonight im stayin up laye
Is the track set now? Could this still move more south than north? Experts needed now!
Well, this is just really cool! Sorry I missed the Christmas stuff down your way. Got your message about your get-together while I was out covering previous engagements, and didn’t get out of church in time for the Christmas Eve festivities. Been extremely busy since then, but really want to bring the kids down some evening or weekend. The asthma in my eldest is an issue, so we’ll be watching closely as he plays in the snow tomorrow. Other than that, everything else is going pretty well.
Chris Bailey has, in our household, narrowly beaten me out of the No. 1 Chris spot. He’s been right on every time. Alison is quite addicted to the blog here…of course, so am I. If you do go tornado chasing, count me in! Gimme a call sometime or drop an email, and hopefully we can get together soon!
I think 3-6″ on the back side of this sytem IE Wednesday Noon-Thursday Morning is possible, but I’m not completely sold on it just yet.
Im with D. Smith. I would not be suprised if we woke up in the AM and the whole system was in Cali!
SWEET! I did not know that. This place is much more than a weather blog. Thanks
I just wish someone could tell me why we keep getting these overriding warm air system that give us rain and or ice at the low 30 temp’s when we use to get snow. What has changed in the last 10 years is it a total climate change or is there something to global warming causing this crap?
Hope Chris makes a new post so the blog doesn’t go down tonight. I’d go into a panic if I couldn’t see what everyone was posting about the weather.
LOL! no doubt
two other notes
1. snow showers friday could add a few more inches of snow
2. another snow chance sunday into monday
I don’t know why but I suspect we get the weather that Tenn. used to get.
Ok…here’s the bad news.
What is falling in West Kentucky (South of the Ohio River) is all ice. We have already accumulated 1/10” of ice in Madisonville since about 9:00 CST. Temp is only 26.
I wouldn’t look for much snow south of the Ohio River tonight. Looks like a MAJOR icing event. We are seeing some sleet mixing in, but again, I have to report moderate freezing rain.
Paducah, Henderson, Central City, and Princeton all report ice as well.
Roads, trees, and ground already covered.
Don’t like the looks of this at all.
Anyone else from West KY on here.
Brace yourselves in Louisville, Lexington, E-town..its coming
Certainly seems that way.
Is this the system that we had been thinking was going to be as strong or stronger than the one we’re getting ready to experience? So I guess it has started to bust as well.
Chris put new post up
When I see ice below Nashville, does that mean the low is moving more south? Is there more of a shot at snow in SE Ky. or does that matter?
Hated to not see you during Christmas, but completely understand how busy everyone is. Sounds great to find some time to get together.
I have been the sickest I have ever been in my life with a sinus/ear infection, havent worked in days, cant seem to shake it.
Hey sometime we can ride out a hurricane also!!! Bring on the BIG SNOW!!!
