Good Monday, folks. We have some flat out awesome fall weather days ahead of us here in the bluegrass state of Kentucky. Gorgeous skies and pleasant temps will carry us through Thursday, then things start to go the other way. That’s when a potent cold front arrives.
Our highs will continue to run mainly in the 70s with lows in the 50s.
Our cold front arrives Friday with an increase in showers and isolated thunderstorms…
We still have to be on guard for a wave of low pressure developing along that front. If that’s the case, we will keep the shower threat going into the weekend. Regardless, temps come way down behind the front. Check out the forecast highs…
Temps rebound after that, but all signs continue to point to a big shot of colder air later next week…
Another seasonal model has updated and it continues to show a colder than normal winter across our region. This uses the ocean temperatures to construct a set of analogs to produce a forecast. It hasn’t changed at all from its earlier runs and is very similar to other seasonal models…
I’ve been hinting at being able to finally hone in on a few analogs for the coming winter. Interesting enough, 3 of those years show up on the latest CPC Ensemble Analog years for the middle of October…
Can you pick out the 3 years I’m talking about? Let’s see how much you guys have learned. 🙂
I’ll talk more about the rest of the fall and winter as the week goes on. Have a great day and take care.
Hmm….. 1992….. All I know is, the following March produced a blizzard. I also know an excellent intern supervisor who told me we’re over due for one of those. Let’s see what time tells.
Oh yeah, the winter of 09/10 was quite an active one.
This looks like a good week to finish the Halloween decorations. Thanks Chris.
CB Ido this iIknow for a fact we hhaven’t had a sever harsh winters that took place here back in the late 70’s. I was a teenager then it was so brutle I remember the Ohio river was frozen and it hasnt happen since. Plus we had that infamous blizzard that shut the state down
I would guess 1978, 2003, 2009.
Thanks Chris. My guesses are 1978, 1993, and 2003. Lots of snow and cold in 78, blizzard in ’93 and snow in ’03. Looks like great weather in Kentucky and Florida today though! Have a great Monday everyone.
I would have to say ’78, ’97, ’03
I’m thinking ’78, ’79 and ’92? This could be fun!
77,78, and 79
78,88,and 09!!
I am thinking of 78 or 79, 1982, also the winter of 2009-10 was a doozy also. Can’t wait to see the sun make a return appearance.
I’m guessing 93, 97 and 2008
Or …. 2013, 14, and first part of 15
Have a great day everyone !
I’m going from 1960, 1978, 1979.
1960, 1978, & 2003
Feb 1961 brutal thundersnow and wind for central KY; shut down Louisville (1960 analog)
Feb 1993 snowstorm 15th; severe weather the next week; big snowstorm later that week or the following week;
March 1993 “Storm of the Century” (those take 1992 analog)
December 2009 – Eastern KY decent snow, 16″ Black Mt, but Appalachians and Smoky Mts buried
January 2010 modest to decent snow amounts especially central and east KY
Feb 2010 again snowy for most of the state; all in all a very snowy winter (these months go with 2009 analog)
1978, 1961, 1988
meant 1960
1978, 1992, 2009
Im going for 1980….2003…..2009
