Good afternoon, everyone. Bands of moderate to heavy snow continue to develop across the bluegrass state and this is a sign of things to come. It’s apparent the models are woefully underestimating these bands, and are playing catch up. Several spots have already picked up 1″-2″ by noon. Other areas have yet to see much. That’s the nature of this kind of action.
Current indications are for a few hot spots of heavy snow to continue this afternoon into the evening. These “hot spots” can easily pick up 2″-3″ of snow. A full blown band of heavy snow looks to develop this evening into tonight across our region. My current thinking is this sets up along and north of the Interstate 64 corridor. That band by itself can drop 4″ or more inches of snow…
That doesn’t mean everyone will see 4″ of snow, and that doesn’t include the widespread snow showers and squalls that carry us through Tuesday and into Wednesday. I’m just highlighting the potential heavy snow band tonight.
The HI RES NAM has some crazy totals within that zone…
This is Winter Storm Warning stuff if it verifies.
I will update things later today on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm. Another update comes your way this evening. I leave you with all your tracking tools…

Thanks CB. This looks like a miss for BG. I guess I will have to wait for round 2 of snow squalls/showers. It`s like summer thunder storms, some might get a drenching rain while others stay sunny and dry. Though I will enjoy watching whatever comes today.
This is just the opening show, The real storm chances arrive next week
This is the appetizer. I am saving room for the main course.
In the 4+ area.. I’ll take that!!!
Moderate/Heavy Graupel falling in BG. It looks like Dippin`Dots falling everywhere!
Poring snow, but not sticking much in northern clay county.
Now,not pouring as hard , but still stready
Hopefully that expands a little further to the west. Would like to see heavy snow falling in Lou this evening. No talk of the weekend weather system. Has it faded out. HHHMMM
The models still have the system. The Canadian looks like this: http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/gem/2016020812/gem_asnow_us_32.png the GFS is a less with this: http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/gfs/2016020812/gfs_asnow_us_33.png it still under playing the cold air. They have a decent handle on it, but it is still a week away.
Bell county left out once again. sadly that’s the norm for this place.
Dont worry Ashly, you won’t be alone. 80-95% of the state will be left out as well
Those were some big fat flakes that came down in Hamburg a couple hours ago. Looked like someone was shaking a snow globe.
Schools dismissed early in Clay county. Sleet had everything covered earlier. Just light snow flurries now.
Never stuck at all around north 421/ north 11 area, but saw some on island creek. Where u at in clay co?

What happened to first alert defender? Its not on my link anymore. Anyone have another link?
Here in Louisa,Ky, it started out as rain about 45 min. ago, then 30 min. later, it transitioned over to a heavy mix. And 5 min. after that, we was getting silver dollar sized snowflakes and lots of them. Its starting to taper off now but it gave us a nice coating on everything except the road.
Moderate/Heavy snowfall in BG; however, none of it is accumulating yet. Fingers crossed for a quick 1″ or 2″. 😉 Probably wishful thinking though…
Coating of snow in BG. Coming down heavy!
Sleet pellets at our house in CKY. Now a fine snow. Those flakes around 11:30am today were HUGE! Still waiting for some accumulation. The kids have planned all of their snow day rituals!
Oh, and the wind is really whipping. I can hear the snow pellets being blown around!
Off and on rain sprinkles earlier in Nashville. Now snow, although not really sticking to anything.
I’m not going to lie, I’m not looking forward to anymore snow!
After our burst of heavy snow I measured 1/2″. A lighter snow is falling now.
Was heading home earlier and ran into very heavy rain. Vehicle was showing 39. The closer I got to home the colder it was and it was heavy snow. Was sticking to everything and the vehicle was showing 31. Road was slick. Lucky for the school it let up but it was really coming down for at least an hour. Have some really cool pictures of all the trees being white. Road was covered white as well. Had to use 4×4 to cross the hill by my house.
Pouring the snow in Clay county. Ground is already white. Temps have dropped to 33.
Steady snow falling again in Eastwood area of Louisville, near Simpsonville. Beautiful!
I think many are thinking we want get another big snow (or two), but I think later in the week looks promising, especially if it adds on top of the several inches earlier this week that many will get between now and Thursday AM. Although many have been down playing this week’s winter threat, a snowy February is looking strongly promising for at least the next 10 days, whether or not all of the events unfold:)
Looks like far western part of my is getting left out. Oh well maybe this weekend
