Good evening, everyone. Talk about a serious overachiever… Today’s system really took things to the max. Snows are still going strong across the eastern part of the state. Some areas have picked up greater than 6″ of heavy wet snow from this system. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some power outages.
My twitter feed has been blowing up with pics and reports showing 4″+ snow amounts. Many of these reports are also sent to the local NWS offices via twitter, however very few of them show up in the official NWS storm reports. That said, all the low end reports seem to show up. That’s happened a few other times this winter, and it’s a travesty.
You can’t cherry pick what reports you send out. The weather does what the weather wants… no matter if we forecast it correctly or incorrectly. You have to report what has actually happened! I certainly didn’t forecast 6″: of snow today, but I’m not going to pretend like it didn’t happen.
Off my soapbox for now. 🙂
Leftover flakes will be with us overnight and into Friday morning with slick roads in the east. Temps hang around the 32 degree mark most of the night.
The longer range call for next week is still for spring to show up in a big, big way. Warm temps in the 70s will surge in from the south. This air is will be rather humid for this time of year. A setup like this…
That setup is likely to bring rounds of thunderstorms our way next week. The models continue to advertise the potential for very high rain totals over the next week and change…
I leave you with your tracking toys for the rest of the evening…

Post a picture Marsha
Been snowing since about 1 pm near Charleston WV. Still no accumulation.
Chris how was this forecast missed so badly I was just watching mid morning weather Jim caldwell said a half inch to rain we have about 9 inches here in Morgan co why did no one see this
Wow, this is probably one of the most overachieving snow systems I have ever seen, if not, the largest! Reports of 6″+ and as high as 8″????? Not too sure that report is completely accurate but WOW! And the forecast only called for flurries/rain/drizzle to a dusting. NWS in Louisville and Jackson never thought they would have to issue a winter weather advisory today, let alone winter storm warnings.
The roads here in Morgan co today was much worst then they where when we got 20 inches back in jan it’s is so slick out there right now
Richmond missed it and just got some scenic snow that melted. Were these higher elevation areas that got the bigger snow?
We didn’t get anything in Laurel County except rain and a few flakes.
Such beautiful photos, guys…
