Good Monday, everyone. Showers and thunderstorms are back in the bluegrass state and could cause a few problems out there today. I’m tracking the potential for some strong storms and local high water issues to begin the new week. I will also take a look at the potential for waves of storms to impact our 4th of July weekend.
Let’s start with today’s weather and roll forward.
Scattered showers and storms will be around, with the greatest concentration across central and eastern parts of the state. High winds and some hail will be possible in the strongest storms. These storms will also become efficient rain producers, and that can lead to local flash flooding issues. That’s especially true across eastern Kentucky and into the flood ravaged areas of West Virginia. I will have your tracking tools in a bit.
Cooler temps move in for the middle of the week, but I am seeing the potential for a healthy battle setting up by the weekend. The heat across the deep south vs a very cool air mass across the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley could put our region in a stormy setup…
This could lead to rounds of strong storms and very heavy rains. The European Model is on board with this potential…
While that is still several days away from potentially happening, I don’t like the early look of things. That’s something to closely follow in the coming days.
Until then, I have you set to track today’s storms…
Have a great Monday and take care.
NWS dropped storm chances today from 50% to 30%. Something must have changed in the last few hours for them to lower it. I know there have been storms around the area, but I’ve only heard loud close thunder once or twice this entire year here at my house, but we’ve had plenty of rain, just no real thunderstorms in my backyard so far.
Looking at the radar right now, the chances are clearly 100% for a lot of people so I don’t know what was in their mind to do that downgrade.
I do hope the storms veer west enough to stay out of WV completely. Those poor people keep having a once-in-xhundred-years event every decade or so since the ’70s.
Looks like the post today is the beginning of the next cooling pattern being set up to never materialize just like the last one.
I think that super cool 4th period a couple of years ago will spoil us for life going forward; I mean what could compare to it really, right?
Thanks Chris. Looks like a stormy day for most of us at some point. Yesterday, the forecast for the holiday weekend was pretty good, ut now you’re telling us that it may be a stormy one….phooey! Ah well, we are supposed to have fireworks on the Fourth of July, right? As for the next few days, I will take a tad cooler for midweek if we get it. After the past two days, it will be a welcome relief. Have a great Monday everyone!
Here’s a good one…tv is on the weather channel here at work. They have already changed our forecast twice this morning. Hmmmm….
