Good Saturday and welcome to the 4th of July weekend. We have some nice weather out there today, but rounds of showers and thunderstorms could cause a few issues in the coming days. This is all part of a very busy pattern that’s going to crank up the heat later next week.

Let’s start with today and roll forward. Highs will range from the upper 70s to the middle 80s under a mix of sun and clouds. A scattered shower or thunderstorm is possible in the west and south.

Sunday will feature a big temperature gradient from north to south. Southern parts of the state may hit 90, with the far north struggling in the 70s. Showers and thunderstorms will be increasing from the west as the day wears on. Any storm that goes up can be on the strong side.

The best threat for heavy rain and strong storms will come Sunday night into the 4th of July. The heaviest corridor of rain will likely be along and north of Interstate 64, but that’s still changeable. We will have to be on guard for local high water issues developing. Here’s my current thinking…

Additional thunderstorms may set up in a west to east band into Tuesday…

The heat really builds in across the plains on Wednesday. We will be on the cusp of the heat, and you can get some clusters of storms diving in from the northwest…

Temps by Thursday and Friday surge into the 90s…

Euro 3Notice all the cold air up in Canada on that same map. Some of that will dive toward the south next weekend, knocking temps toward normal or a bit below. That same setup may also get us back into a pattern that turns stormy across the Ohio Valley.

Have a great day and take care.
