Good Thursday, everyone. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms continue to pound much of the bluegrass state. This action can lead to a tremendous amount of rain that can cause flash flooding issues.
The amount of moisture available in the atmosphere is off the charts. This will only add to the amount of rainfall these storms can produce. Radars will underestimate the totals in a situation like this.
The storms will come at us in waves today and flash flooding is a very real threat. If you live in a low lying or flood prone area, please keep a very close eye on water levels.
After talking about this potential for more than a week, there’s nothing left for us to do, except to track it…
I will have the very latest on twitter and on WKYT-TV. Have a great day and take care.
Already have picked up a ton of rain in mt Washington the last hour. Doesn’t look good rest of night based on radar trends. Some areas will pick up over 6 inches tonight no doubt.
Areas just south and east of downtown Cincinnati have been hammered since 4:30AM with flash flooding, road closures and water rescues.
Time to get into my boat and rescue Bubba!
We have been fortunate here in Somerset. Just had some rain move through but the heavier stuff has been just west of us. From looking at the radar, that is about to change. Wondering if I should change my shoes at lunch and put on my swim fins or not! 😉 Chris thank you for talking about this for several days prior to the event. You can cut the humidity with a knife here, and even though the temp is in the 70s, it is so sticky you cant stay out but a minute without starting to sweat. Please everyone keep an eye on the weather and the warnings, and Chris, a big thank you for everything you and your team for all that you do.
We had an out burst of rain here in Morganfield,ky last night. 5 inches of rain fell in one hour and lighting was strick with this outburst. We had several monsoon like rains this summer, but not like last night. Big shout out to Chris keeping us inform what might be in store. He’s the best!!
We had around 1.5 inches of rain in my part of Lexington, but zero lightning/thunder. In fact, this entire year I do not think we’ve had a single bad thunderstorm. Good thing if you don’t like storms
