Good Monday, folks. Were coming off quite the weather weekend here in the bluegrass state. Many areas had the hottest temps of the summer, with some of us getting in on some big time thunderstorms. Now comes a decent change as we flip the calendar from August to September. This change also comes with a big push of tropical systems to track.
Today’s weather will find temps back into the upper 80s to low 90s. Scattered storms will once again cause problems on a local scale. A few could be strong and put down enough water to cause some flash flooding. The daily dose of tracking tools in a bit.
Tuesday will find more of the same, but with temps starting to edge down a bit. This trend continues into Wednesday as a cold front approaches from the northwest. This could bring a broken line of showers and storms into town by Thursday…
MUCH cooler air comes in behind this with readings in the upper 70s to low 80s on Thursday. The Friday highs continue to come down a bit on the models…
VERY pleasant low temps should be noted…
That looks absolutely awesome.
Now, where do we go after Friday? That’s the big question likely to be answered by exactly what goes on with our system down in the Gulf of Mexico. A depression has also popped off the Carolinas and could get the name Hermine before our gulf storm. If that happens, say hello to Ian.
Some of the models also try to spin up a third system off the southeastern coast. Check out this trio…
That’s pretty wild to see.
Speaking of wild, the models continue to be locked in on another potential system next week…
Track the current tropical action right here…
Here are your bluegrass storm tracking tools…
Have a great day and take care.
I just made a comment that didn’t post. I think it was the world bluegr-a-s-s. Yesterday the airport received zero rain. The storm barely missed them. I’m not far from the airport in McConnell’s Trace, but we had a LOT of rain here. The other week when the airport got over 3 inches of rain I think, we only ended up with around a half an inch
It seems it all evens out in the end and Lexington’s ‘official’ tally of about 6 1/2 inches of rain for August with about 2 1/2 days to is probably accurate.
MarkLex, same here where I live – we are close to the airport and we got zip from the storms yesterday! Our weather radio kept going off with alarms and we were outside, trying to find a raindrop! 🙁
And about the storm the other week, I actually had the most interesting experience with that one. I was sitting in our family room and heard a noise outside, like pounding rain. I got up to check it out, looked at our neighbor’s house and the rain was pouring on their house and driveway. Not a drop was on our home/driveway! It was the STRANGEST experience!! Eventually, of course, the rain fell on our house/driveway and made its way up the street, but for around 45-60 seconds, the boundary was our neighbor’s house and it was a pouring rain! It was literally like stepping into a shower by walking onto their lot. Such a strange thing to experience!
Saturday was HOT in my area (Raceland). Heat index was around 106 and the actual air temp got up to 96. Yesterday, we had a storm blow up right on top of us and it didn’t move for some time. Looking forward to some cooler weather.
