Good Sunday to one and all. We have a weak cold front marching across the state with additional showers and storms for some. Once this goes through, we have quite the temperature pattern taking shape over the next few weeks. Middle of summer temps and a “pot of chili alert” should show up during this time.
Buckle up for another lengthy post. If you’re a regular reader, you know I like where the pattern is going when my posts start running long. 😉
Today’s rain will be primarily across central and eastern parts of the state. The heaviest will be in the east with some areas picking up more than an inch. Drying skies will settle in from the west this afternoon and evening…
Monday looks pleasant enough, but the September sizzle returns thereafter. Temps may push 90 again next week into the start of the weekend.
This is when we will likely see a major fall cold front moving into the region. The European Model has one heck of a front a trough coming in behind it…
That’s a nice little negative tilt on that system that really digs in early next week…
Here’s what that looks like upstairs…
The GFS approves of this message. Check out this animation of the trough plunging in and has another one behind it…
Here’s what that looks like with the temperature anomalies…
Make it a great day and take care.
Good Sunday Morning,
I hope this is the last week of extreme heat. I am looking forward to some cooler temps. As of now it appears we are finally tracking in the right direction.
Looks like there are the remnants of a couple of Pacific typhoons that are curving back towards Alaska. Usually when that happens we do experience a cooler weather pattern here in about seven to ten days. That matches up well with what the models are showing.
You know you’ve got problems when you need a major pattern shift just to get you back down to the range for normal temps past the middle of Sept. Still don’t see Sept. coming in with anything less than substantially above normal no matter what happens now.
Good info Chris Mercer, I hope you’re right!
Here’s hoping for some beautiful weather and some great chili for that UofL football game at the end of the season. Lord knows we’ll need it.
Thanks Chris. It’s that time of year when we are in the dreaded transition phase. While I’m ready for less humidity, I’m not really ready for warm weather to make an exit, either. I hope it will at least stay nice while and until we get back from vacation. Then, maybe I can entertain the thought of cooler weather. Of course, less humid makes it seem cooler. Have a great Sunday everyone.
Id like to know where all the “heat” people were complaining about this summer was…Certainly wasn’t in Kentucky
High temp-wise it was pretty normal, but humidity was pretty high more often than not. Also, pretty sure LEX and LOU came close (or broke?) records for longest stretch of days where the temperature never went below 70. IMO, 70s at night is almost as miserable as 90s at night. Hot nights are also generally what kill people during bad heat waves.
*90s during the day, I mean.
Odd, Louisville had there 3rd hottest summer on record.
Whatever happen to that good soaking rain that we were suppose to get this weekend? I know the WPC had there rainfall maps for 2+ inches for parts of Kentucky including my neck of the woods. I think I received .10 of a inch. There might of been a few county’s around me that got maybe a half inch that was the exception not the norm.
