Good Thursday, everyone. Fall arrives today, but Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. Summertime is putting in some serious overtime across our part of the world. Hang in there, big changes are showing up as we roll into next week.
I’m not even talking about the weather for the next several days, because you already know the drill.
Change starts early next week with the potential for a big upper level low to cutoff. The models always struggle with placement and timing of these things, but the signal for something has been there for a long time now.
The GFS starts things off with a strong cold front passing through here late Monday into Tuesday with showers and thunderstorms abound…
Check out the HUGE temperature gradient along this boundary as it initially moves in…
The GFS slows that down across the Appalachian Mountains with another surge of heavy rain late Tuesday and Wednesday…
The European Model is just a littler slower with this big system with the bulk of the action arriving from Monday night through Wednesday…
As the upper low closes off and slows down, the European brings that right on top of our region for the second half of next week…
There is the potential for some REAL DEAL cool and chill as that system rolls in here.
Have a great Thursday and take care.
40 (90) degree days in Lexington at BGA so far this year, but only 10 (90) degree days (if my counting was correct) at the Fayette Mesonet. However, a lot of those mesonet readings were 89.3, 89.4 etc., just barely missing 90.
The humidity has made this summer feel terribly hot.
“I’m sure those numbers aren’t legitimate because WKU spent millions pouring concrete all around each weather station in the Mesonet network and installed mirrors to point sunlight directly at them as well. We had one of the coolest summers ever down here! My thermometer, which sits right in where the spring water comes out the mountain hardly ever changes, so I know there’s a bunch of crazy stuff goin’ on with all of these high temps”

Don’t forget the “my holler in Fisty only got .76 inches of rain, so Versailles must be in a severe drought!”

And the NWS wants to poo poo on the front next week just to say temps will drop to climo maybe just a touch below if the progressive model trends continue.
Thanks Chris. It’s always fun this time of year to see what kind of goodies the different models bring up concerning the weather and fronts. It seems to me with the seasonal changes, all the different models have quite a time figuring them out. All I am hoping for is good weather for travelling next Thursday and Friday and good weather in Florida the following week, and then good weather when we come back. I have had two bad accidents in rain and do not like travelling in it Today is once again beautiful here in Somerset. Yes, the temp is warm but the humidity is not bad at all and that helps a whole lot. Here is hoping the rest of everyone’s day is good. Thank you Chris, for all the info you always give. Makes for interesting reading and speculating. 😀
Hopefully the cool air will stick around longer than previous cool spells we had. Seems like when it does cool down it doesn’t last no more than two days. but at least were not having high humidty that we had.
Yeah, I don’t particularly like it to stay this warm nearing October but the low humidity is MUCH more tolerable than what we had to endure back in July and August. It is almost comfortable in the shade…better and hopefully snowiest days coming soon.
Snowie…stupid auto correct
I give up.
