Good Tuesday, everyone. Election Day and the word “change” often go together. That is certainly the case with the weather out there today as a cold front sweeps into the bluegrass state. This is part of a much bigger overall change with a much colder pattern settling into the country.

Today will feature a lot of smoke coming from the forest fires in the east and southeast. Winds will be gusty as clouds increase from the west. Showers will develop from west to east today before ramping up this evening. That action can put down up to a third of an inch in some areas by Wednesday morning.

Temperatures on Wednesday will be near 50 in the east, with low and mid 50s for the west. Clouds may be very tough to scour out across central and eastern parts of the state.

Thursday into Friday will have low 30s to start and mid and upper 50s for highs.

A colder blast of air surges in Friday night into early Saturday. That should be mainly dry. Highs Saturday will range from 45-50 for much of central and eastern Kentucky with low 50s west.

The 20s show up by Sunday morning…

A couple of systems will try to dive in here next week as the jet stream is just itching to amplify in a huge way. The European Model keeps showing this well, but varies on the placement and depth of a bigger mid-week system…

The European Ensembles mean shows this as well…

It will be several more days before we see what kind of storm system that setup can deliver, but the setup is certainly there!

I will update things later today, so check back.

Have a great day and take care.
