Good evening, gang. We are dealing with very cold air blowing into the region tonight into Friday. This will knock wind chills down into the single digits at times late tonight for some areas. This will also funnel in some more clouds and a few snow flurries.
From there, it’s all eyes on the late weekend system impacting the weather for a lot of folks. This system continues to show the potential for some front end wintry weather across parts of our region. The new NAM only goes through the wee hours of Monday morning, but shows the prospects for some wintry weather across the northern half of the state…
Now, don’t look at that and think snowfall, think of it as showing where the potential for winter weather is across Kentucky.
The same with the European…
You can clearly see the heaviest snow to the north of the Ohio River on both of those models.
Taken verbatim, those models show some front end wintry mix changing to rain and carrying us into Monday.
The GFS had a late day run that focused this action a lot farther north…
The next item up for bids is an arctic front slated to arrive by the middle of next week…
That will likely have a system along it that can bring winter weather to our part of the world. Behind it…. B to the RR. 🙂
I will see you guys back here later tonight. Enjoy the evening and take care.
Is it clear that all these models 7 days out r a complete joke.
They might be good during the summer fall and spring but they totally suck during the winter.
The short to mid-range has been terrible all year with most of the models..seems worse than 10 years ago with the then more primitive techology, in my opinion.
Your just realizing that. That is why there is only seven day forecast. And they even change after three. Models(computers) are only a guidence to what may happen. You have to admit thought that these December cold waves do bring a better shot at snow for most of Kentucky than in recent pasts.
No I realized that a long time ago.
That’s why last Sunday when the GFS model was indicating a low would be navigating across Tennessee Valley.
I posted what a joke the GFS is at predicting where a low will eventually travel.
I guess I am a gullible soul that believes that maybe one time it will be correct.
I understand how you feel…now, the low will likely be about 500 miles north of the last week’s GFS run when it crosses the country later this weekend…sad but the nature of being a weather fanatic comes with the continued ups and downs.
Thanks Chris. All I can think of is the holiday song “Baby It’s Cold Outside! “. And do it is!! Have a great evening everyone.
Meant that to say and SO it is!
Thanks Chris and bundle up.
Light flurries up here in North East Mason County.
Flurries flying in Frankfort, 🙂
Flurries flying here in Louisville, beautiful sight this time of year!
Snow problem here. It will be here soon enough.
None the less, the aggregate trend seems north of the Lex metro area. Not likely much snow impact for us at least into next week.
Ohio river area might need to get shovels located and ready.
Deck duster in frankfort, nice early start to winter.
