Good Sunday, everyone. We continue to deal with a serious case of the uglies. Our weather has been nothing short of pitiful looking for the past several days, and today will be no different. If you’re looking for a lot of pretty ahead, it’s not happening. As a matter of fact, this pattern is about to kick it up a few notches with another back loaded winter waiting in the wings.
Temps today will be colder than what we had on Saturday as our front oscillates a bit south. This means middle to upper 30s will be common for the northern half of the state with mainly 40s south of that. Throw in more low clouds, fog and showers, and you have another nasty weather day…
Our front returns to the north as a warm front on Monday. Gusty southwesterly winds will usher in much milder temps with readings anywhere from the middle 50s to the middle 60s. Late day showers and thunderstorms will increase from the southwest and carry us into Monday night…
As a cold front marches in here later Tuesday into Tuesday night, additional showers and thunderstorms will develop…
This action can drop another inch or two of rain on am already waterlogged bluegrass state.
Colder air will come in behind that for Wednesday, but temps will still be a little above normal. Day I say we can see some sun for a short time?
Another system then moves in here by late Thursday and Friday with additional rounds of showers and some thunder…
This will be followed up by the potential of a massive cutoff low to develop late next weekend into early the following week. The European Model shows this massive system…
Check out the wild look at the surface…
That system likely ushers in our back loaded winter.
I will update things later today, so check back. Enjoy your Sunday and take care.
All this moisture the past several days and more days to come and we cannot muster any snow at all, pathetic pattern.
Was telling my wife last night that this was a lot of wasted rain. Hopefully these lows keep rolling across when(if) the cold settles in and we can at least half winter.
Rain is never wasted.
Well, at least it will dry up when it hits 32 degrees 😉
Yep, but it will probably only “average” 33 degrees with ongoing rain.
Extremely boring last half of winter comming up
If boring means little to no rain, whether cold or warm, I’ll take it and be happy!
According to EF5 a few weeks ago he said big snows late January into February now he says last half of winter is going to be boring.

As of this morning…
Louisville +1.7 degrees compared to normal January
Lexington +2.7 degrees
Bowling Green +4.2 degrees
This week’s temperatures are only going to make it more difficult to go below normal for the month. We would have to achieve at least 7 days of well below normal readings for the rest of the month to go into negative territory after this week’s blowtorch.
And I don’t foresee anything as brutal as the temperatures we had earlier this month…looks like 30’s for highs during the potential cutoff above according to Euro day 10 map at 850mb(latest 0z run)
EF5 Snowfall, where did you get you meteorologist degree?

Bring on the back loaded winter. I’m looking forward to some snow chances before winter is over. Seems like our pattern the last few years!
Thanks Chris, our family appreciates all your work and the ” teaching moments”.
It will definitely have to be back loaded. Didn’t even have a famous 7 day out threat in the first half.
Just remember, the sun is shining even if we can’t see it. Have peace, its snowing somewhere today.
I hope we can see a little sun this week. And pray we can see some snow next week, either way let’s enjoy each day! It’s only weather,
not life
Well said BengalFan! So who are you rooting for in the NFL playoffs? I’m a Broncos guy, but I’m kind of rooting for the Pack now.
Rooting for anybody not named Cowboys.
Yeah I kind of feel that way about the Patriots. I could handle a Chiefs win too.
Same here.
AFC…Go CHIEFS
NFC…Go Pack
Pitt fan here! Im hoping for a falcons pitt bowl!
Many meteorological signs pointing to cold and snow chances starting around Jan 26th (as Mr Bailey implies). Patience is not Rodger’s strong suit but hopefully we’ll all get our fill of snow before this winter is over. Rodger in Dodger
As long the sun comes up every morning weather we get snow or not life goes on. I’M pulling for the cowboys there over due.
Normally I’m sitting here watching the folks just north and northwest getting all the snow. I’m just glad today I don’t have to traverse the ice to get home after work .
