Good Tuesday, everyone. We have a cold front working into the region today, and this will bring some big temps wings over the next few days. This front initially hangs around for a few days before finally deciding to push to our south and east, allowing colder air to move in.
Temps today can reach the low and mid 50s in the south with low 40s in the north. Skies stay mainly dry, but I can’t rule out a shower in the north. Winds will stay pretty gusty.
The front then slowly drops southward on Wednesday and brings a healthy temp gradient with it. It should also be able to squeeze out some rain and snow in the north. The GFS is now catching on to this potential…
Much colder air then settles in for Thursday and Friday with 30s for highs. A weak system shears out as it moves in from the west and could spawn some snowflakes.
The weekend system continues to look messy as it moves in Saturday night into Super Bowl Sunday. Rain, snow and a mix is likely with this, but the exact details of this system are days away from being known. The current GFS shows some winter weather impacting out region…
Following that, the GFS shows some big dips in the jet stream through early February…
That setup can feature additional wild temperature swings that can produce a lot of ugly weather. From 70 and strong storms to teens and snow? As someone who has been yearning for true spring for the past 6 weeks, that look does not make me a very happy camper.
I will update things later today. Have a good one and take care.
Chris 6 weeks wanting spring where is our Chris bailey what have you all done with him this is upsetting our Chris wanting spring so early but with a winter like this I really can’t blame you
I’m with the other person that posted. I want my old Chris back….. the one who loved snow. 🙁
I’m sure Chris still loves snow, but Chris knows at this point, just as we do, that “kicking a dead horse” wont bring it back to life. Chris’ absence of the lively optimistic updates we are used is very telling.
I don’t think you want spring, I think you want out of this same pattern we’ve had all winter! It’s absolutely terrible. This winter really hasn’t been that far off from spring.
Well, he DID forecast this in his winter outlook, but ALMOST fell for the Lucy football models a few times along the way. This winter though, even Lucy’s spotting was shakey or dropped. Nothing to really try and kick at.
Looks like Thelma Lou’s prediction of 70’s in December, January &February looks to be on track.
I too am yearning for spring at this point, and as someone who said put a fork in winter a long time ago, I have now talked myself into thinking it’s spring, maybe it will work LOL
Wow..That’s like wanting spring to start in the middle of December..Wait,,Spring did start in the middle of December..lol..Next winter looks promising..Weak El Nino will save us..
February looks to be an interesting month starting next week. I have seen this weather pattern before and spring is almost always late. We will find out.
All there is left to say is ” wait until next year.” There is some good news the rain will wash off the unnecessary salt on my vehicle.
I live here in far western,ky I can’t recall the last time that we went through Janurary without a measurement snow. I look February will be the same unless this pattern change.
Even Darth Bubba would find this winter too dark.
Winter is over, but then again it never got started.
Did you see the storm for next week? A monster snow ……total crappy fanticy
Yeah just when you thought the GFS could not have anymore tricks GFS wants to hint at a double barrel low 60’s-70’s one day and heavy snow the next. smh
Already 52 degrees
I pretty much gave up on this Winter a couple weeks ago when we went two weeks in the middle of January and stayed above freezing. I figure we might get a couple more ankle biters. The Sunday system will be rain maybe a dreaded backside flurry. This year just wasn’t meant to be for us. Winter belonged to the West this year.
Well folks, a positive is the weekend system has the apparent conditions for ice if we did get the colder air, so seems a good miss 🙂
Didn’t CB ask us before about a video segment of his thoughts on this blog about the upcoming weather?
Local Met here in Louisville does that, and it’s really more understandable and enjoyable.
with last years never ending summer, I long for a cold spring. I do not like hot weather. #prayforlongcoldspring
