Good afternoon, everyone. Winds have hit 40mph at times today as we get a cold front to slowly drop in from the northwest. This will usher in a pretty sharp temp gradient for Wednesday and could bring some rain and snow to the north.
This front pretty much represents the theme of the winter with a constant battle going on. That battle may really ramp it up next week. I will show ya that in a bit.
I mentioned the rain and snow threat in the north tomorrow, and it’s fairly light. Here’s where the GFS thinks the winter weather may be…
Temps in the south may push 60 degrees while that’s taking place.
Colder air pushes in for Thursday and Friday with a weakening band of snow moving our way. Can it hold together to produce some flakes? I think it can.
The Super Bowl weekend system continues to trend weaker on the models and that means it will have less cold air to work with. Still, it can produce a front end surge of wintry weather…
In my last post, I mentioned how the pattern next week has the look of one that goes from 70 and strong thunderstorms, to snow and teens.
Well, here ya go…
I know some of you think I have resigned from the snow lovers club. I still love my snow, but I’ve been in a spring mindset for a long time now. Unfortunately, mother nature doesn’t care about what my mind wants. 🙂
Here’s the winter deal. In order to get to real spring, we are going to have to endure a period of pretty good winter weather around here. This is not a pattern that just makes a harmless transition to true spring, and I’m hoping we can get it out of our system sooner rather than later.
The deeper it goes, the more it also ups the ante for our spring severe weather season. We’ve had some very quiet springs around here for the past several years. Pure percentages say it’s going to catch up to us.
I will try to update later this evening. Make it a good one and take care.
About done tracking these “next week” winter weather makers! NONE of them work out no matter what any Ensembles or models have said a week in advance! See U next year!
I feel the same way. This Winter has been a real dud. I love snow, But I am so over this season.
Quit whining.
Why? This winter has been horrible for snow lovers! I can whine all I want.
Don’t pay any attention to Hamlin. Not sure why he feels like he’s the blog moderator or who put him in charge
Spring is coming, rejoice LOL. And Hamlin is funny LOL, post remind me of Walter Mathaeu (spelling?) from the movie Grumpy Old Men
Mike quit being foolish with your comments.
60 degrees and sunshine is the real story here. Such a beautiful day!
60 here to I guess we squeezed out that 50
LOL…on break at work and local weather has Harlan 60 degrees even at 3:20 here…common theme in this corner of KY!
Thanks CB!
I have 0% concern with snow (probably not happening), but have 100% concern with severe weather of non frozen type in the next few months.
Lets just put a fork in Winter 2016-2017. Ready for 70’s and green fairways.
Even the above GFS model gets cold on the 9th and basically will be replaced with warmth on the 11th. The warmth is by far the bigger story this year. The abnormal “spikes” this year is the spikes that are cold, what is the norm is 50’s and even warmer. We have missed 3 days of school for some reason for not even a total of 1/2 snow.
BengalFan took a two week break from this blog back in the first of the year, and was hoping it would eventually turn to be true winter (IMO, it never has). So….I think I’m finished until next November. Blog-Out
BengalFan just pulled a Seacrest. lol
I’ve logged in less than 10 times all winter.. I just knew the weather wasn’t gonna give Chris anything to talk about. Bring on baseball!
What is the timeframe of that cold dropping out of Canada? If I remember correctly, isn’t that drop needed to start the transition for a longer stretch of warmer weather? I thought a build up of cold in Canada was something that you had to always wait out, or is this just too early for this to be the last build up?
We have not had a true Spring Severe weather outbreak since March of 2012.. Yes 5 years is a long time and its gonna catch up with us in one way or the other.
Tennmark.. go watch YouTube video of “Huntsville Alabama snowstorm from TWC Jan.1988 ..It does snow in TN…The entire state had 6-12”!…Lol cool videos.
Don’t forget the wonderfully infamous 1993 March Super Storm…
Very cool update, Chris. Here’s hoping we get some snow on one of those COLD dips. We’re still a ways away from spring, I mean pitchers and catchers don’t report till 2/14.
Go Cats!
This has been a dud of a winter so far. Maybe we can squeeze out some snow in the next few weeks. Cold with no snow is boring. Bring on an early spring!!
Spring will not be here for a while. No amount of wishing will hasten it.
Ditto on expecting snow 😉
