Good afternoon, everyone. After a frigid start, our day is turning out pretty darn nice across the bluegrass state. This nice weather is about to give way to a potent storm system, ready to blast the bluegrass state early next week. That will bring cause a head on collision between spring and winter.
Temps this morning hit the single digits in many areas…
This is, at least, the 8th time we have had single digits so far this winter, and that’s impressive given our lack of snow cover.
As we look ahead, Super Bowl Sunday continues to look like a mainly cloudy day with just a small mix chance in the morning. Highs hit the 40s for the entire region, but should hit 50 in the south and west.
Monday will see temps spiking deep into the 50s as showers develop throughout the day. Some thunderstorms will try to join the party late in the day. This is ahead of our big storm developing in the plains. That system will then roll into the Great Lakes, dragging a strong cold front across Kentucky. The end result will be the potential for high winds and strong to severe thunderstorms. Behind the front, a 30-40 degree temp drop and some wraparound flakes…
The Storm Prediction Center is seeing the threat for severe weather. They have a marginal risk for severe across the west on Monday…
Day 4 is Tuesday and they have most of Kentucky in the slight risk…
With so much wind energy available, we will need to be on guard for some damaging winds to go along with a large hail threat.
Even without true severe thunderstorms, check out the high wind potential as this storm rumbles through…
That’s a healthy shot of cold air by Wednesday and Thursday with the potential for another light snow maker to zip in here on Thursday.
That cold gets wiped out by Friday and Saturday as temps try to spike back into the 60s. That’s right, we will likely go from the 60s to the teens then back to the 60s in just a few days span.
Guess what that means? The potential for another big storm system to come together and impact us next weekend…
That’s another spring verses winter slugfest waiting to happen. Never a dull moment around here.
Enjoy your Saturday and take care.
Beautiful day out today and back to the 60s next weekend. I like snow but if we can sneak a few nice weekends in this month the average highs get tolerable by mid-Feb. Temps are on the upswing and days are getting longer. Not long before nature starts waking up again.
Bring on spring…this winter is done…well actually it never really started
In a slugfest between Winter and Spring. My money would be on Spring, especially in our neck of the woods.
Every week it’s supposed to snow then gets changed to supposed to happen the following week. What a depressing winter 🙁
Winter is over bring on summer
Even more amazing is all the single digit lows and the winter is still above normal for temperatures.
That was ugly…almost as bad as this winter!
