Good evening, everyone. Thunderstorms are packing a “hail” of a punch as they press across eastern parts of the state. Our focus is now shifting to a transition to a period of wet snow as colder air dives in from the northwest.
The snow will be fighting a wet and warm ground, but may fall hard enough to put down some light accumulations for a time. That’s especially the case on grassy and elevated surfaces. With temps tonight dropping into the 20s, slick spots may develop on bridges and overpasses later tonight and early Thursday.
I have you set to track this hit and run blast of winter…

Pathetic winter
I went back and read all the weather blogs from all of February and early March 2015 and it was interesting to see how many of the comments were about winter being over with daytime highs running in the 50s. And then a few days after Valentines it started to get cold and we had two historic snowstorms and freezing cold weather. After those three weeks it is interesting to see how most people were sick of winter and had had enough. The point is our perspective can change very quickly. Let’s all pray we get one big snow in late February or early March
I have enjoyed the warm weather this winter. love doing daily hikes and walks on super warm days. I’m so ready for winter to end. Hopefully soon, I’m ready for spring, love the flowers, planting in my small garden, hiking and walking. Glad the big snow missed us and stayed north. Bring on Spring, Chris 🙂
Plenty of time for warm and sunny… It’s February – it should be cold and snow…
Kind of refreshing to hear rumbles of thunder. Hopefully this spring won’t be like last where we went basically through the whole thing without a storm.
Big Nothing Burger in western KY. Truly the snow loser this winter! Rodger in Dodger
RD, Richmond has had 1/2 inch of snow total – all winter. Beat that!
Pretty flakes flying in Louisville’
Half-dollar sized flakes near Iroquois Park. Pretty indeed.
The storms have been nice. Very abnormal weather and yes, feels more like spring everyday. The frogs were even singing this afternoon
Wraparound, shmaparound. All moisture will be gone before temps drop enough here in Lexington. Radar showing that clearly now. Get through a cold Thursday and bring on more golfing weather!
I will never understand this idea that you need to have a certain high level of warmth to do outdoor activities. Snow on the golf course, yeah okay, but otherwise you can do these things you supposedly love year around. If we can put roofs on year around, I think all of you fairly healthy or better people can handle your leisure activities outside as well.
After that initial blob of red and torrential rain that went with it that went through Berea for 15 minutes, it’s been a TON of virga the rest of the evening if you go by the radar. Seems like every year I see more and more of that sort of thing happening with all manner of precipitation.
Roofs need a certain temperature to activate the adhesive. Unlike past years we had long stretches of cold that have not happened this year. We might catch a big one , buy regardless this has been a boring winter. Not even go a whole lot of the NW shift of years past.
