Good evening, folks. This post is from the “better late than never” file after your friendly weather dude spend much of the day at the Kentucky Sport Boat and Recreation show in Rupp. It’s pretty humbling to have so many people come up and talk about their love for Kentucky Weather Center. As I’ve always said, this site revolves around you guys. A shoutout to all those who wanted me to mention them in this update. 🙂
In terms of the actual weather. We have a cold front dropping in from the northwest with scattered showers around into Sunday. Winds are gusty and temps are very mild ahead of this front. We will stay in the 60s all night long, which is pretty insane.
Temps for Sunday will reach their high point early in the day, with falling numbers into the afternoon and evening. Lows by Monday reach the 20s.
We continue to watch a system trying to come together from later Tuesday through Thursday. A deep trough digs into the Ohio Valley and east as a disturbance comes out of the southwest. If you want a big winter storm around here, you want to see these two come together. The model trend is to keep them separate until it’s too late for us…
Here’s what that looks like at the surface…
That’s still a nice shot of cold with some flurries or snow showers for our region. But, it would become another big snow for the northeast, where they are getting pounded AGAIN this weekend.
Behind that… it can get darn warm around here. If we look at the upper level setup, there’s a heck of a ridge building into our region as a deep trough develops in the west and works east…
Temps next weekend can easily hit 70 or better and the models are starting to see this…
This setup can also lead to some big thunderstorms developing from the plains into our region. After that… Guess what happens? We will likely turn colder with some winter weather potential.
This overall pattern across the country is crazy, right now. I’ll touch on that later tonight.
Enjoy the rest of your evening and take care.
Just one good snow Chris… That’s all… Just one good snow…
mo snow sounds good
CB, you know the winter for snow is dead when in winter we are looking at, winter weather potential 😉
Not even discussion if a chance of a threat mode, yet alone an actual threat mode. Maybe next winter 🙂
I planted peas, spinach and broccoli today. Guess I am ready to move on to Spring weather…oh wait, it’s been Spring for a while already!
Not on the calendar it hasn’t.
Agree Jcat, the seasons they are a changing. I put a fork in winter, based on the patterns CB was
showing early on, and I got lucky with that call, and now spring is really knocking on the door. I fear a very dry and hot summer ahead based on these patterns, hope I’m wrong.
Agree all you want. You’re still incorrect.
Chris will nyc and others get another snow storm???
Nice day out today. We might get a good one, but the good thing about this time of year is the average highs start getting up to where you can enjoy the outside more. Bring spring with a big snow in-between.
I am a big snow lover. If we can’t have any snow with the cold bring on the spring.
Gusty Southwest wind. Curse words for the snow lovers. 100F recorded today in a town in OK. Story of the winter, really…
Can’t imagine how u got your ground to be good enough to plant… I know they can grow in cold soil but… my soil is still to wet to plant any early stuff….☹️
